We stayed at the Intercontinental on Friday, November 14th while attending the Spurs vs. Warriors game. I had booked months in advance, reserving a two‑queen one‑bedroom suite with a request to connect to a one‑king room. I followed up several times by phone and was reminded each time that connecting rooms were only a request. However, during the week of our stay, I called again and was told that two connecting rooms had been assigned for us on the 4th floor. When we arrived to check in at 4:17 p.m.—17 minutes after the guaranteed check‑in time—the front desk representative informed us that both rooms were clean, but one was still pending inspection. We waited about 5–10 minutes before I asked to speak with a manager, Porsha, who was at the desk nearby. Although she had already been made aware of the situation, she continued checking in other guests while we waited. When I approached her, she avoided eye contact, quickly typed on her keyboard, and handed me room keys. When I asked if the room had been inspected, she replied, “I just gave you different rooms.” I explained that this was unacceptable, as I had specifically booked those room types. There are only two two‑queen one‑bedroom suites in the hotel, and the other was occupied until Sunday. At that point, she finally acknowledged me and provided keys to the correct suite. However, when we went upstairs, the rooms were not connected and did not match the reservation. Back downstairs, she then told me there was an electrical issue in the connecting room. I noted that transparency from the start would have made the situation far less frustrating. She offered another set of rooms but said they would take an hour to clean. Since we were heading to the game, waiting was not an option. Overall, the experience was disappointing. This is not the first time I’ve had issues with IHG properties—our stay at the Kimpton Paris earlier this year was similarly underwhelming. If you’re simply looking for an inexpensive room near the Riverwalk and don’t expect much beyond that, this hotel may suffice. But if you value good service as much as the room itself, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere as I've never been treated so rudely at check-in.

The staff was extremely professional and courteous. Porsha was very helpful during check-in and ensured that I was taken care of. The hotel is in a great location with close proximity to the Riverwalk. However, the main Riverwalk area with all the restaurants is about a 10-minute walk. But my wife and I found this nice because the hotel is in a quieter area compared to other hotels. The room and hotel were very well maintained, and everything was clean, tidy, and well-kept. The bed was comfortable, the water was hot, and everything in the hotel/room worked. My only issue occurred during breakfast. The service was extremely slow. Plus, they got my wife's order wrong. When the food arrived, it was cold. Not sure if they had a bad day, but that was somewhat frustrating and surprising to us. However, the food tasted good, and the server was attentive and helpful. If we're ever in San Antonio, we would book this hotel again.

I am a Diamond member and stayed at this hotel a couple of times in the past week. PROS -The staff is friendly and helpful, bordering on exceptional. Every interaction I had with a staff member was positive, from check-in to the bartender to the person answering my text messages for various things, to check-out. It felt hospitable. -The property is new and in a modern style. The rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable. -The location is in a quiet corner of downtown SA. It's away from the hustle and bustle of Commerce, Market, and Alamo - feels peaceful. (That may be a downside for you if you're looking for convenience.) -I only ate here once, but the food I had at the bar was excellent. CONS -I'm beginning to realize that this is just a San Antonio thing - both of my rooms were not as clean as they should have been. The first room had hairs scattered in a few places and the bathroom counters were not very clean. The second room had something red/brown caked on the toilet seat - I had to scrub it down with hand sanitizer and a towel. This has been my experience in most San Antonio hotels where I've stayed in recent years. I can't remember having as clean as a hotel room in SA as I can get in Dallas, Houston, and most other cities, or other Intercontinental properties, for that matter. -The heater was broken, and it was quite cold in the room through both nights. -Some of the electrical outlets didn't work. -The ice vendor who supplies the hotel bar with ice has some fishy-smelling ice. The bartender took care of it. -I'm certain that had I raised these room issues to the staff, they would have addressed the problems for me. But that presents an inconvenience to the guest, because now I have to have workers in my room for who knows how long. These are issues that shouldn't arise in the first place. The hotel could benefit from a quality-control person who checks the cleanliness and operation of each room before guests are checked in. I would stay here again, but next time I'll immediately check to make sure everything is clean and in working order before settling in.

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous!! It was beautiful on the outside and the inside! However, staff and service left a lot to be desired. No one could be bothered to help or inconvenienced in anyway. We had a a terrible experience the first night as a concert was playing outdoors and very loud in our room and while it was an external event no one had any solution other than deal with it. My daughter also walked up to the bar to ask for a fork and was passed over several times then given a spoon. My husband was also ignored while sitting at the bar. Room service was ordered and took over an hour to arrive and the food was cold. We called for a bellhop for our luggage and waited 40 minutes and decided to just walk down with our things. Upon check out the staff was very bothered to deal with anyone. We also heard other customers speaking to management about other complaints. Valet was $65 a night and takes forever. Overall, while the aesthetic screams upscale and luxury the actual service you receive is bottom of the barrel. Would not recommend to anyone. Ever.

This hotel should be removed from the Amex Fine Hotels list. It simply doesn't meet the standards. We've stayed in a lot of the hotels on that list and this is definitely the worst. Check in was horrible. No help was available for our luggage. There was a huge wait to check in and rooms were not even ready at 4:45 pm when we tried to check in. They didn't have us down as being part of the Amex fine resorts and the desk assistant told us she could "let us" have it as if she was doing us a favor. We received no upgrade which is usually custom, no welcome refreshments. Our room has drywall damage and is flaking onto the carpet. We've usually had great stays with the Intercontinental brand. This place is off.
