This property has poor upkeep. It does not meet the standard established by other Holiday Inn Express locations. During our stay, the elevator was out of service, the pool was out of service, and the lobby water fountains were out of service. The breakfast area did not have full sized plates in stock, and was also out of pancake batter. In our room, the blinds were stuck in the closed position, the bathroom door did not lock, and the bathroom fan would not run so there was mold near the ceiling. 1-2 of these inconveniences is understandable but it seems that management here does not care. IHG needs to get involved in order to keep up their otherwise strong brand reputation

Where to start, checked in the day before Thanksgiving and the front desk said did you get a call about the elevator not working? I never got a call. They said I can cancel my reservation without the cancel fee, wonderful but there are no extra rooms due to holiday travel. Get to the to find mold in the shower and spider webs, take pictures and back to the front desk. The answer let’s put you in a room equally as awful. Moved my stuff to the second room provided and no hot water. Being as it was a holiday I was running out of options. They assured me maintenance will take care of the problem. Get back to my room later and still no hot water, the solution we will let you shower in a room down the hall at the other end of the hotel.
Bathroom sink wouldn’t drain didn’t waste my time calling to it fixed. Fixed it my self.
No door locks working with the keycard from the outside so the solution is people are propping doors open and leaving the place unsecured.
The only response from the management is well it’s an old building and due for renovation. How about maintaining the rooms and facility till that takes place. I’m sure this is t the worst Holiday Inn Express but this better hope they don’t close.
The only positive was that breakfast was okay.
Don’t waste your time booking here the place isn’t worth even driving by.

Our first floor room was not bad, but not great, either. It was clean and the beds are good. My biggest complaint is the traffic noise from the freeway. This hotel sits right beside a freeway, but apparently was not built with sufficient soundproofing, or at least the rooms next to the freeway were not built with sufficient soundproofing. The traffic noise was really bad. Even running the fan on “constant” didn’t cover it. It’s that bad.
My second complaint is that for the price of a room here, I expected a lot larger tv than what was in our room. It might have been a 32”, but because it’s so far from the bed, it seemed even smaller, like 28”. The size of the room merited at least a 43” tv, if not larger. I have stayed in smaller rooms with 50” tvs.
If you are a light sleeper, as I am, you’d better find a different hotel in San Angelo. If you can sleep with the very loud sound of traffic zooming by, you’ll be fine.
As much as I usually like Holiday Inn Express hotels, I can’t take that traffic noise. I don’t think we will stay at the HIX in San Angelo again.
Oh, and it was annoying that the desk clerk who checked us in kept calling me “hon.” I’m 73. He didn’t look even half my age. Don’t call a woman - who isn’t your wife or daughter - “hon”. Ma’am will do. Or preferably, my actual name, since it was on my reservation.

I was totally dissatisfied with the cleanliness of this Hotel. Carpet was stained and dirty as soon as you walked in. Our room key didn’t work half the time. I went to use the dryer and it didn’t work. The pool outside was green. Holiday Inn Express normally are nice but this one wasn’t. This hotel seriously needs some serious updating. The staff was really nice.
