Our first floor room was not bad, but not great, either. It was clean and the beds are good. My biggest complaint is the traffic noise from the freeway. This hotel sits right beside a freeway, but apparently was not built with sufficient soundproofing, or at least the rooms next to the freeway were not built with sufficient soundproofing. The traffic noise was really bad. Even running the fan on “constant” didn’t cover it. It’s that bad. My second complaint is that for the price of a room here, I expected a lot larger tv than what was in our room. It might have been a 32”, but because it’s so far from the bed, it seemed even smaller, like 28”. The size of the room merited at least a 43” tv, if not larger. I have stayed in smaller rooms with 50” tvs. If you are a light sleeper, as I am, you’d better find a different hotel in San Angelo. If you can sleep with the very loud sound of traffic zooming by, you’ll be fine. As much as I usually like Holiday Inn Express hotels, I can’t take that traffic noise. I don’t think we will stay at the HIX in San Angelo again. Oh, and it was annoying that the desk clerk who checked us in kept calling me “hon.” I’m 73. He didn’t look even half my age. Don’t call a woman - who isn’t your wife or daughter - “hon”. Ma’am will do. Or preferably, my actual name, since it was on my reservation.

I was totally dissatisfied with the cleanliness of this Hotel. Carpet was stained and dirty as soon as you walked in. Our room key didn’t work half the time. I went to use the dryer and it didn’t work. The pool outside was green. Holiday Inn Express normally are nice but this one wasn’t. This hotel seriously needs some serious updating. The staff was really nice.

Booked several rooms for family visit in town. One room only had one of the two window blinds so did not block the light at night and let most of the sun in during afternoon making room warm. Elevator would not operate a couple times until clerk did something. The side doors are disabled for key entry which I am ok with but there was no sign saying you could not get back in if you went out. Worst of all the pool is closed! Hello, this is west Texas in mid October. There is still another month of summer here! Come to find out it has been closed since mid September. That tells me they do not want to pay to fix something or they don’t want to pay for the maintenance. They did have cookies, water and coffee in lobby. Such a same that establishments want your money but take no responsibility for upkeep. Later, checked with 6 other hotels in a 1/4 mile radius who all had outdoor pools. The other IHG property's pool season goes thru October 31. The other non-IHG properties pools were open all year.

Keep driving! Management awful. Needed a handicap room, when we got to our it was not-only bell for hearing impaired. When i went back to counter, thinking it was a mistake, the manager said that we could just leave. I had spoken with her just hours before on the drive in, to let them know it would be a late check-in & make sure all was well for my 90 or old father. Also: door lock was broken off, phone broken, the 1 blind was shredded- looked like cats had ripped it apart and the heater buzzed like a broken freight train-it too was broken. Oh yes, and numerous holes in the wall that were plastered over. The tv worked but was size of small computer screen. We stayed as father was too tired that late at night. Breakfast-awful! Trash receptacles were taped over. No juice-machines taped "out of order" eggs powdered and watery, no hot water. This place has really gone downhill. Such a shame.
