- RBRichard BurkNov 25, 20252.0Wow, just wow. The room was musty. Outside our door was an air conditioner in the hall. I appreciate them keeping the hall cool. But it was not a good sign. We entered the room with an overwhelming musty odor and since I am allergic to mold, I was not looking forward to staying. So the room was large. Two beds as advertised. One TV, but I thought the listing said 2. We were given a phone number to call to hookup a laptop to the TV if needed. Obviously they know this is problem. Upon entry we were also greeted with a full dehumidifier. So yeah, they know the place has a mold problem. We have stayed at several different hotels in Portland and so far the new ones all seem to have this issue. The Hampton which is older was the only one to not have a mold issue. The beds were both in good shape. The AC performed well. The TV had many channels, but too many ads so I picked HBO and no ads. Lots of shelving in the room. Nice chair and a desk/table on wheels was nice. Interesting decor in a bad way as the wallpaper was both stained and peeling. The doors on the fridge opened on the right rather than the left given its position by the door entrance. Liked the shower. The bathroom faucet is like a bunch of individual jets. I didn't like that. Plenty of towels. Bed mattresses were great/comfortable. That's a plus. Pillows were old and needed replacing. No water in the fitness room. They had a tank for it, but empty. The fitness room looked nice but skipped it since no water. The checkin desk person needed to be more detail oriented as we split our bill between gift cards and credit cards. The morning person rectified the problems. Clearly mgmt knows about the mold and humidity problems given the dehumidifier in our room which was full up before we woke in the morning. So we didn't bother mentioning it. So this is another hotel in Portland we won't likely visit in the future. The room rating is primarily due to the mold issues and the peeling wallpaper. Fix those problems and the musty odor should resolve itself.
