- DGDianne GrahamSep 2, 20251.0We stayed at this hotel on our way to Big Bend and booked the largest room available, paying extra for the additional space. Before checking in, we specifically asked the front desk about smoking policies, as my husband is a smoker. He never smokes indoors and always goes outside. The staff informed us that smoking was permitted either near the road or in the back of the property, and he followed their instructions every single time. Each time he returned to the room, he either showered or used cologne to make sure no trace of smoke carried in with him. Despite taking every precaution, we were shocked to discover a $250 “cleaning fee” added to our bill for smoke odor. This charge feels unfair and unjustified, especially given that: We confirmed the smoking policy with staff at check-in. Staff saw him step outside to smoke on multiple occasions. We’ve stayed at many hotels without ever having this issue or being accused of smoking in the room. We are extremely disappointed with how this situation was handled and do not feel the charge is legitimate. If you are a smoker, even one who follows all hotel rules, be aware that this property may still penalize you.
