You really do feel the level of luxury as soon as your drive up to this grand-like resort. The entrance and lobby are truly stunning. We came during the off season so the amenities such as the pool, restaurants, and outdoor seating were all very accessible with attentive service from the staff. The property overall is quite well maintained and with plenty of helpful staff particularly the valet guys. There are couple of minor inconveniences such as the fact that you are being charged $25 a day for a resort fee which basically gives you 2 bottles of water for the entire duration of your stay. The rooms are a bit outdated also but do recommend the ocean view as they all come with a small balcony. No microwave is available in the entire property as well. So although the hotel policies due contribute to some inconveniences, this is by far the best hotel on the island.

Our first night we got in late and we were ready for bed, that's when at 1:30 in the morning we heard a teenager screaming from the 7th floor down to his mother on the ground level. This so called resort isn't for people 55 and over, kids everywhere, we were on the 7th floor and heard kids screaming at the pool from 10am till 11pm at night. On Monday they had a DJ blasting music so loud we could hear it on the 7th floor. Now when I think of a resort, I think access to the beach, nope, at this so called resort you have cross a 4 lane road of very heavy traffic to get to the beach, it's dangerous all that traffic coming at you, and the hotel does not provide you with a safe crosswalk to the beach.

I unfortunately cannot recommend The San Luis Resort for overnight stays prior to a cruise. While the rooms themselves were nice and had great views, our experience overall did not meet expectations given the price. During our stay, we encountered several issues. We had requested that our luggage be divided between two rooms, but all items were delivered to one room, and we needed to move them ourselves to another floor. At check-in, we were informed that a discounted rate could not be applied to one of the rooms due to hotel policy, despite the occupant qualifying. We were also charged a resort fee that included access to amenities such as the outdoor pool and lounge area, which were not available during our stay due to a private event, as well as Wi-Fi service that we experienced as intermittent. We requested a pack-and-play at check-in, but it was not delivered until several hours later and only after a follow-up call. Food pricing was also higher than expected. For example, we were charged $10 for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with fries for a child, which felt high for what was provided. At checkout, while managing luggage with toddlers and a disabled member of our party, we did not receive assistance from staff in transporting bags to the shuttle area. We had confirmed a cruise shuttle pickup time of 11:25 am at both check-in and check-out; however, by 11:45 am the shuttle had still not arrived, and it did not show up until closer to 12:00 pm despite multiple calls to the front desk. Finally, we were told that a manager would follow up regarding these concerns, but we did not receive a call. Given this experience, I also informed our travel agent so they are aware when making future recommendations. Based on our experience, we would choose to stay elsewhere in the future. UPDATE: No one from the hotel has reached out still, and I e-mailed the Landry customer services folks below without a response to date. Unfortunately, in my opinion, they seem to be more than happy to take money without fixing issues with their service.

I’ve never written a hotel review, but I feel the need to warn others about this place so you don’t find yourself in the same trap that happened to me. I recommend reading the 1-3 star reviews because they seem pretty on-point to our experience. I’m literally writing this review as I sit at the hotel we transferred to since the experience was so awful. We booked our room in December for an end of March Disney Cruise. When we arrived at 4 p.m. they said the room wasn’t ready, still needed to be cleaned because they had so many late checkouts. I’ve stayed at many hotels, but never experienced a room not ready at 4 p.m…So we had an early dinner and returned. When we returned they said they accidentally overbooked the room and that it wasn’t available. They tried pitching the situation as if it was a benefit to me because we now got to stay in a “condo.” I quickly realized that the condo was on the other side of the hotel, was much poorer quality, and lacked basic safety features that all hotels should have unless you want to be held liable. I have a 3 year old, very active toddler. We got to the room to find really low quality furniture/bedding and no balcony locks. No locks on the front door so my toddler could freely open the door and run out. Instantly I called and said this room wouldn’t work and we needed a new room. It looked nothing like the online pictures. We went down to speak to the manager, definitely not 5 star quality service, more like 1 star quality to be honest. We had to wait hours throughout the whole process with a sad toddler who just wanted to go to the beach. Both my mom and I were calling other hotels to try to find a room while the hotel attempted to have engineering “fix the locks.” We finally found another hotel and said we were going to stay there since the wait was so long with no response from the hotel (we were at 8 p.m. by this point). Get this: the manager said she couldn’t give me a full refund. We had to keep waiting on her to come out of the office throughout this experience, the most she said she could refund me was $250 of the 500 + bill. We hadn’t even stayed there! She said they fixed the locks. I said we weren’t staying there, it wasn’t the room I booked, and it was much lower quality, not a 500/night room. She said it was. She openly was very rude in front of several other guests, the whole scene was appalling and disrespectful. She said she needed a director to get approval for a full refund. When I asked to speak to the director was she said he/she wasn’t there. I got so upset that I was shaking, I literally told her I was so upset it was making me shake. I found it interesting that another review I read also described a female manager who made them shake. This place is an absolute scam, don’t fall for it!

The hotel in general is very nice. The rooms could use some updating for the cost, BEDS AND SHEETS MUST BE CHANGED! Beds are old and not comfortable and the sheets are so starched they're scratchy. I got a soft blanket the next day to sleep on. Views are great from all rooms. The pool mgmt. act superior but really they just joke around with staff at the pool bar, they should definitely be working, customers constantly ask the bar where their server is to get their check. We had a server couldn't find her, asked another server if she could find her and they told us "oh she left" and she didn't say anything about leaving. Management didn't verify she turned her tables to another server. The food at the pool is good, it's from Blake's bistro. Food: At the hotel eat at Blake's bistro or the steakhouse, Grotto is not good and was to expensive for what you get. Service was great though. Outside of the hotel, (next door Rainforest and Landry's, the company that owns San Luis owns them also) Landry's, don't eat here it's terrible. Most out of towners think this is fresh seafood it's not. It's crazy expensive for flavorless and cheap seafood. Go to Katie's seafood on the strand, they fresh catch daily. Food is delicious and a great patio. They also have a fresh seafood market next door. Any food at Pleasure Pier (also owned by the same Co as San Luis) is all terrible and the one across the street in the parking area. Just cheap, expensive, "chain food". Hearsay on the strand is really good. The Hotel Spa: We've had several massages here, they are always amazing! Everyone is so nice, rooms are clean, beds are nice and warm, locker rooms are nice with all kinds of possibly needed items, steam room, nice glass of champagne, and delicious fruit water. It is not cheap but here you get what you pay for. The valet is expensive but so worth it. Self park is pretty far and rain in Galveston is always a possibility at anytime especially March - June. All in all, this is the nicest hotel in Galveston with the most resort style amenities. I just beg they get new beds!! If you do book here, ask if any of the rooms have new beds so maybe you can get a room with one. At check in ask for an extra blanket, not the extra in the room already, state you'd like the white one they put under the quilt on the bed. Put it over the bottom sheet.
