We stayed at Best Western Plus Edinburg Inn & Suites for a longer booking and it was a deeply disappointing experience from start to finish.
First, the room. The “welcome” note in the room immediately told us that housekeeping would not be cleaning the room during our stay, framed as giving employees time with family for the holidays. They offered towel refresh “on a few days,” but when you have booked an extended stay, this is not acceptable. On top of that, the bathroom was in bad shape. The tub was visibly rusty and the restroom overall looked worn and poorly maintained.
Then breakfast made things worse. There was an employee at the breakfast area who acted less like hospitality staff and more like a gatekeeper. It felt like you had to “earn” a plate. I asked for two plates for my kids while we waited for my wife to join us. One child did not eat, so I was trying to encourage him. When my wife arrived and asked for a plate, I went to get one and the breakfast attendant challenged me about having already received a plate. She spoke only Spanish and would not even look me in the eyes, yet I watched her speak normally and politely to other guests who came after us. I am Black and my wife is Hispanic. I do not like making this kind of statement, but in that moment the treatment felt targeted and humiliating.
To add to it, our youngest has autism and it can be hard for him to sit still. During the breakfast chaos, he was wandering near the automatic door. We were actively trying to manage him, but the situation was already tense. A front desk employee came over and scolded us rudely about him opening the door, instead of showing even a basic level of patience or understanding.
At one point I asked, “How much is a plate?” thinking we could just pay and move on. The attendant responded (in Spanish) that they do not sell plates, but she could “make an exception” and give one “only this time,” in a condescending way, as if she was doing us a favor.
That was the final straw. We cut our stay short and moved to another hotel down the street. The contrast was immediate and stark. This property needs major improvements in basic maintenance, customer service, and guest treatment. We will never stay here again, and I do not recommend it to families, especially families with kids who need a little grace and understanding.
The rooms were not as shown in the website . They are rusty and outdated. They had noooo soap in the restrooms to wash our hands. I asked the lady in the lobby and she said “yeah , we don’t have any soap right now”. Like ew. The floors were dirty and the continental breakfast was the same ol’ continental breakfast you get . We really just needed a place to stay … but I wouldn’t stay here for not any longer than 1 night.
Very comfortable bed slept like a rock. Pool is nice a refreshing. Will definitely stay here again when we're in Edinburg again. Staff was very helpful and friendly.
So much for being a Diamond Select member. I made my reservation through the BW app and when I arrived to check in I I knew I was going to have issues. I wasn’t even greeted with a hello or good afternoon or anything. First this out of Lianna S.’s (front desk clerk), was credit or debit card and ID. Not even a “please”. She highlighted a check in sheet and said, “fill in the highlighted”. And that was it. I guess I must look abhorring or something. Maybe I offended or something. I don’t know. But I have never been snuffed so surely before even knowing a person. The room was ok, but the air conditioning only went as lo as 68. Too hot for me. This is Mexico, Texas and 90 degrees out. 68 isn’t gonna cut it. Other than that, the room was decent. I had to shower twice to keep cool. I would have asked for a different room or refund, but I wasn’t going to be nice if I had to deal with that person again. I ended up leaving after it got dark. I won’t return to this place again. I won’t go into the fact that there is a food truck on the property.
