Caution, this property is under renovation and not suitable for those on a leisurely vacation as the construction noise starts at 7 am. I completely understand renovations are necessary, however, charging full price during a renovation, $193/nt, is ridiculous especially when the front desk is a folding table, no pantry, no sitting area, no lobby restrooms, makeshift breakfast in a conference room, and no ice machine or vending machine on first floor. I strongly advise anyone to avoid this property until renovation is complete or they adjust the nightly rate to reflect the disruption to their patrons.

The room was great, some of the staff not so much. The owner/one of the higher ups will jump into a conversation you’re having with the front staff about a totally different situation and won’t listen until he is done with his irrelevant take. Also despite having made a reservation a month prior, they called me only 24 hours beforehand to let me know there had no availability.

RECOMMEND YOU AVOID. We've stayed here before and our stays have been fine. However, I'd recommend you avoid this HIE until their renovations are completely done - given the pace, it could be a number of months. The lobby was gutted when we got there (tiling started during our stay and was incomplete when we left) and the 3rd floor was essentially gutted - and rooms were being upgraded. However, it has a long way to go and 1st and 2nd floors hadn't been started. We made our reservations 6 months prior to arrival - with no knowledge of the renovations - and we were not notified at any time during the interim. Not good form for IHG / HIE. I made my reservation on the IHG website on 20 Jul 2025 - for a 17-23 Feb 26 stay; as expected - prices were higher than normal due to Cowboy Poetry Gathering. Room cost avg was $229 per night. We expect hotels to take advantage of elevated demand to elevate prices. We did not expect to check in to a destroyed lobby, dusty hallways, displaced breakfast venue, cold coffee, and dry cinnamon rolls - and on several days a walk outside to get around the lobby to the breakfast venue; we had no knowledge of these issues until our arrival on 17 Feb 2026. At check-in - the young lady at the front desk was somewhat curt when I asked her about the construction at the makeshift table in the lobby when I checked in. The stay did not begin well. The next morning I spoke with a lady who identified herself as the hotel manager (name withheld for her privacy); she argued with me about the construction saying the hotel construction was clearly stated on the hotel website (not on the IHG website where I made reservations) - I then checked the hotel specific website. There was a short sentence about the construction but no pictures or explanation regarding the extent. Not to mention WiFi outages - when I reported this to the "manager" her answer to me was "no one else has complained." She asked me "what do you want - some points?" - my assessment of customer service was not improving. I can see why they'd be frustrated - they're having to greet customers in a construction zone; however, both of these ladies lost excellent opportunities to make good first impressions. To her credit, the "manager" did some homework and, when she discovered I had made my reservation 6 months prior, she then reduced my 6 night total from $1,373 (avg $229) to $1,061 (avg $177). By no means was this stay worth $177 / night - however, rooms aren't plentiful in Alpine during Cowboy Poetry Gathering (the Gathering was excellent as always, BTW). I would have much preferred better accommodations or, at least, a rate commensurate w/ the conditions. However, I didn't go to Alpine to haggle w/ hotel management over the appropriate rate for lodging at a construction site, so I let it go at that. Am hoping this HIE gets straightened out soon; it's an excellent location and has been quite acceptable in the past.

The hotel first floor is a construction zone. They really should not be in operation if the main entrance can’t even be accessed and there is dust everywhere. There was no lobby to speak with anyone regarding issues. The elevator was not in operation due to the construction. Hotel never apologized for the inconvenience nor offered anything (no drinks, points). On checkout day housekeeping knocked twice at 9am and 11am well before the 12pm checkout. I’ve never had housekeeping try to come in 3 hours before check out. The blinds in the room were broken and would not open. Breakfast was the only good thing and they had set it up in the meeting room. The rooms are large and clean but overall not very pleased with the stay

I was unable to use my reservation due to conflicting and undisclosed check-in limitations. The booking indicated that the stay was valid from 3:00 PM check-in until 11:00 AM the following day. Based on this, I reasonably understood that if the room was paid for within that time period, I would be permitted to arrive later in the night. Prior to arrival, I contacted the hotel directly to confirm the latest possible check-in time. I spoke with Iliana at approximately 3:06 PM and was informed that I had to arrive no later than 2:00 AM because their system “resets,” and they would refuse check-in after that time. To be clear, I never stated that I would arrive at 3:00 AM. I was referencing the published 3:00 PM start of the stay. If a guest has already paid for the room for that night, an internal system reset should not transfer the burden to the consumer. The room remains paid for within the reserved occupancy window. Because this restriction was not clearly disclosed at booking, I was left without a reasonable or safe option. I was traveling from Houston to Alpine due to a last-minute situation and could not safely drive 8–10 hours overnight in order to meet an unexpected internal cutoff time. When I contacted the hotel, they refused to issue a refund for circumstances outside of my control. While Expedia later provided a credit as a courtesy, this does not change the fact that the property denied accommodation for a paid reservation. This resulted in significant disruption to my travel plans and financial loss.
