So, I don't recommend getting a spa service here. Very mishandled and confusing. They seemed pretty reluctant to do their jobs at all, like we were just bothering them. It did not feel welcoming with how the lights were off, and there was no hot or cold water for refreshments afterwards.
The water dispenser in the gym room didn't work.
No elevator/escalator when you self park or luggage carts whatsoever.
You having to pay for parking is a little off putting. The exit and entrance to the parking garage is extremely narrow.
They could have easily made the hot tubs bigger with the amount of space they had.
Lots of unsightly eye sore discrepancies with the renovations going on.
It was nice to be given an ocean view room with no extra charge, but the renourishment construction for the beach was nonstop all night.
Warning : The shower floors in the room were very slippery.
There were no shelves or racks in the shower to put your other bottles except for one very small ledge.
The complementary aspects were contradictory.
The outdoor pools were not heated, which is odd, because the indoor one was, which I think, is less necessary.
Disorienting leaving the, albeit very well lit, parking lot.
The room keys were deactivated too soon, despite easily asking for a late check out the night before.
The other areas that supposedly required a room key actually did not, given how the doors were cracked open.
The gift shop is only open from 6am-noon. It should be noon-6pm. Who in their right mind is going to buy a t-shirt at dawn? Just leaving money on the floor.
There should have been more than one area to shower by the pool, and being able to change the temperature on it would have been nice as well.
Despite the no smoking policy, there was a cigarette smoke smell while we were out on our patio.
Toilets were very low to the ground also.
No bathtub either.
Having access to HBO Max for free was nice.
There being no fee for a late check out was a relief.
Not nearly enough hangers in either closet and it wouldn't have hurt to have extra pillows and blankets already in the room too.
It was good to know the front desk person had cared enough to text us, asking if we needed anything, and/or were satisfied with the room.
Couldn't figure out how to open the safe and the fridge was very small.
The bathrooms were immaculate although not all of the soap dispensers seemed to work, and it was difficult to find the flush.
I recently stayed here with my family to ring in the New Year, and I have to say, I was hyped! I’d been telling everyone for weeks how excited I was. We took our time driving down, stopping overnight in NC, which gave me some time to do a deep dive into the reviews. I always check the 1-star and 5-star ratings to keep my expectations realistic—and I’ll touch on those inconsistencies at the end, but sprinkle some of the issues in saw repeatedly in the reviews.
**The "Wow" Factor:
Arriving on a Tuesday night was a total treat. Once you hit the island, the lights are everywhere, but the display at the entrance of the Hilton Beach Resort and Spa is **next level**. My mom couldn't stop taking pictures; it really set the mood. The lobby is just as gorgeous—high ceilings, tasteful decor, and a very "wowed" first impression.
**The Mixed Bag (Arrival & Room):
Here’s where it got a bit confusing. It was a Tuesday night in the off-season, yet the unloading zone was a bit of a mess. We waited about 30 minutes just for a luggage cart, which was baffling considering the hotel wasn't even at capacity. Parking is just off to the right after you unload. Parking is $65 for valet parking, or $15/day if you park yourself. Note: This is a resort, not a regular hotel, so there are resort fees, something to consider when booking.
*Pro-tip:* Have your spouse check in at the counter (or on the app, it's faster and great for picking your room!) while you wait for the luggage cart. Also, if you’re a coffee addict like me, there are restrooms right by the Blue restaurant, left when you walk into the lobby, so you don't have to wait for the elevator!
The front desk staff was super kind and hooked us up with waters and geve us the 411 on services. We got an amazing beachfront upgrade, but—plot twist—it didn't have the sofa bed we needed for the kids. Thankfully, the service was on point; we called down, and they had the sleeping situation sorted for us quickly.
**The Room Details:
The room definitely matched some of the comments I’d read. The walls have this textured blue paint "coastal," I guess? Not exactly my style, but fine. There were some minor "wear and tear" issues, like a bathroom fan that didn't work and some fixtures that looked like past guests had been a little rough on them, but nothing I couldn't live with. You get plenty of storage, a fridge, a safe for valuables, and those massive panoramic sliding doors.
**The Absolute Highlight:
The sunrise. I’m not exaggerating when I say, best I’ve seen in my entire life. I’ll post photos, but they honestly don’t do justice to the colors, the camera just can't capture the bright oranges and red hues coming from the rising sun. I spent an hour or so just staring at the horizon before heading down to explore.
The resort layout is great—lower level gives you access to the breakfast spot, the spa, and the indoor pool/jacuzzi area (complete with a ping-pong table!). While the main level has rhe gift shop, Blue restaurant, sitting areas, and the frint desk.
Even though the outdoor bar and restaurant were closed for winter, the deck area with the pools and tanning beds looks like it would be a blast in the summer. The indoor pool is heated, and both indoor and outdoor jacuzzi are heated as well.
**The Bottom Line:
While there are definitely some inconsistencies—like the long wait for carts during the off-season and some room maintenance needed—nothing compares to that ocean view from our balcony, the access to the beach, having a spa in the lower level, or hanging out at the deck relaxing or reading.
It’s a beautiful spot to bring the family! The best part for me was eeing the joy in my wife and kids faces. My mother loved every minute of it. At the end of the day, when you go in vacation, it's about the memories, the food, the people. The room was the weak point of this whole experience, but ten years from now, the room will not be what I remember about this trip. It will be the smiles on my family's faces, the bright sunrise, and the walks by the beach with my wife.
