Arrived in the evening, last minute stop during our travels. Lobby looked clean and the receptionist was friendly. The hotel is awkwardly located at the back side of a convenience store that apparently is a hang out spot in their parking lot.
Proceeded to our room up the elevator and are greeted with a loud thud sound. There is a sign on the elevator that a part has been ordered and it is in process of repair. (What I now see is there are other reviews stating the same from September ... 2 months ago).
We get to our room and enter the door to tile flooring that is loose and uneven. Grout that is not secure. Proceed in and notice both comforters on the beds are dirty. Not just stained, but actually dirty like they've not been washed. We proceeded to take those down to the reception area and request new. We were greeted, she was apologetic and gave us all new folded linens. We took those up to the room to remake our beds. Unfold the new comforter and see it full of holes. Not just a small hole, many small holes and one large rip in the middle w/ the stuffing hanging out. Again, we take photos of this one to show at the desk as we leave to grab dinner and contemplate our location.
We reluctantly return and decide to stay. Get a new comforter and plan to hang out at the indoor pool. Get everyone dressed and head down to see the spa area has black stuff floating all through it. We investigate a bit and realize its the paint from inside the spa and pool that is flaking off. There are no towels and everything in the room is rusted or corroded, table legs, chairs, doors, everything!
We took the stairs the rest of the stay to avoid the broken elevator. It was only 1 night, so we could deal and planned to grab breakfast as soon as it opened and hit the road in the morning.
In the morning, got everything together packed up and headed down to breakfast about 7:15. (It was supposed to open at 7). The doors were closed and there was an area full of other guests waiting as well. Took all our bags out to the car to get it packed while we waited. Came back in and it was still closed so I proceeded to ask at the desk what time it would be opening. I was told they are supposed to open at 7:30 but they must be running a couple minutes late. (It was 7:35 at this point). Another guest overheard my ask and her answer, chuckled and said " she told me they were supposed to open at 7:15, but last night told me 7am". The sign clearly stated breakfast started at 7am. We left at 7:40, not willing to delay our travels any longer without knowing what was happening OR what the quality or cleanliness would be! Several other guests walked out frustrated behind us.
The spaces could use a lot of cleaning. Carpets look dirty, what has been upgraded, was poor quality construction work and is failing.
Overall, if you need a place to lay your head - it works but i would have VERY low expecations. Would not stay at this location again and makes me question the consistency w/Holiday Inns in general.

We stopped at the Holiday Inn Express in Hardeeville, SC as a halfway mark returning home. I booked that day in advance requesting a handicap accessible room which was available. The front desk person Kenyatta (sp ?) offered us a different room with a better location that was not handicapped accessible and gave us the choice. We chose the closer room and it fit our needs perfectly. The offer was much appreciated and showed how well she knew the hotel. I knew right then I was going to leave a review.
