The Melbourne House is an absolute gem in the heart of Newport. Perfectly situated within walking distance of the harbor and downtown dining, it offers both convenience and tranquility.
The home itself is impeccably restored, blending historic character with understated elegance. Our accommodations were pristine, thoughtfully appointed, and exceptionally comfortable. Every detail felt intentional.
For travelers seeking charm, location, and a boutique-level experience, this property delivers beautifully. Highly recommend.

This was her first time at this in its historic we were in the historic section for our room so the rooms were kind of slanted lots of character had a gas fireplace in the room otherwise room was big bathroom small.
We were there for a Saturday night on Sunday morning they had a breakfast two items on the menu but plenty of buffet items to fill you up.
They do tea from 3:00 to 6:00 with snacks it was a nice treat and the goodies were good.
It's really convenient right downtown easy walking distance to everything.
Parking's kind of tight as you'd expect in downtown.
I wouldn't suggest this place for kids it's really for a couple looking for a nice comfortable quiet getaway easy access to downtown and things in Newport to do.
I stayed here around 10 days ago and I loved it. I traveled by myself exploring the New England. Newport needed to be included and it certainly did not disappoint. The Francis is a wonderful historic landmark and I felt right at home. Rooms are exquisite and well appointed, the food is delicious and the location is perfect.
PS: a special thanks to Glen for all the helpful suggestions and to Tobie for simply being wonderful. Grazie :)

Newport is amazing and the Francis Malbone House is the best way to explore the city. It is indeed a wonderful place to stay. Our compliments to the extraordinary friendly and helpful ladies from the staff.
We definitely would stay here again.
Thanks a lot!

This historic colonial home, now converted inn, is a gem on Thames Street. It is the once grand mansion house, finest in Newport (before the Gilded Age of the Cottages) of Francis Malbone - an early colonial and American merchant family of the area. The inn has the old world charm and first class service and modern amenities. Bathrooms are spacious and clean, rooms are cozy, homey, and comfy, and the complementary warm and cold breakfast is top notch - you can eat it in the peaceful coutyard or in their perfectly modeled 18th-century dining room (part of the new 1989 addition). The afternoon tea and snacks were ideal for an afternoon of rest from hitting the town. The staff are attentive, friendly, quick, and very helpful and make you feel right at home. We felt well looked after since the moment we arrived and we were sad to leave. If you have a love of history and the old world, and still want modern amenities and first class service, book a room here, I cannot recommend it more highly.
