DoubleTree by Hilton Montreal was a very underwhelming stay for our family of four over New Year’s Eve, and unfortunately not what we expect from a Hilton property. Check-in on 31 December was extremely chaotic. Despite arriving only an hour early, we were asked to return at 4pm, at which point the queues were overwhelming. With only four staff members on check-in, we waited around 40 minutes just to collect our keys. For New Year’s Eve, staggered check-ins or earlier access would have avoided this bottleneck. Several operational failures followed. We were unable to charge drinks to our room immediately after check-in, which was embarrassing and poorly handled. Retrieving our luggage took over 15 minutes with no staff assistance, and there were no porters available despite travelling with two children and multiple suitcases. Lift queues were consistently 15–20 minutes long. The most serious issue was being issued a key to an already occupied room, resulting in us accidentally walking in on another guest. This was extremely distressing. When raised with reception, we were told this was already known, which was unacceptable. Resolving the issue required more waiting, poor communication, and reliance on a service lift just to reunite with our children. Our room did not match the advertised city view and instead faced building backs and a flat roof. The famous DoubleTree cookies were also cold and hard by the time our children received them. The duty manager, Dimitris, handled our complaint well and offered breakfast and drink vouchers, but even this became frustrating as the bar refused to accept the vouchers after seating us. Breakfast itself was average, very busy, and service was inattentive. Overall, the hotel felt disorganised, understaffed, and indifferent to guest experience. While it may cope during quieter periods, it struggled badly during a peak holiday stay. We would not return or recommend this hotel.

This hotel has so much potential - beautiful rooms, a great pool and a great location. However it is utter chaos! There are 20-30 minute lineups to get into an elevator every day in the morning at breakfast times and every afternoon at checkin times. There are two functional elevators! Then there's the lineups for the breakfast - super inefficient management of the breakfast - you must wait to be checked in and then a separate line for actually getting a table - these are not minor issues, they make the experience super frustrating - as though the hotel never thought they'd have more than ten people for breakfast or waiting for an elevator - they must think through their logistics. We tried taking the stairs - a logical solution to the elevator crisis - but we got locked in - there's no way out into the hotel! Then there's the fabulous pool which is closed til 2pm on weekdays! We weren't the only family with kids looking forward to using the pool during the school break that were sent back upstairs in our bathing suits after seeing the CLOSED sign - 2pm , that's outrageous! The parking garage is another logistical disaster - good luck getting in and out. Anyhow, i want to love this hotel but it really felt like 2+2 equaled zero - such a frustrating place. With better management and thought, this could be amazing.

We are staying three nights for the new years 2026. One, if you call front desk, no one answers no matter what. So I had to come down and ask them to make the room around noon. Nicolas at the front desk said ok he will make sure he gets it done. This is around noon. I come by to my room at 6pm and its not made, no one came. I call front desk, no answer. I come down and ask Nicolas again and he says "I am being transparent, your room won't be made today. We have a lot of checkins". Yeah? These people didn't just walk in off the street. They are booked guests. And what I am being told, no apology, no compensation, is that they will not be making my room today. I asked to speak to the manager, and its been 40 mins waiting at the front desk and no sight of manager. Apparently he's inspecting rooms. Absolutely ridiculous service. Manager's name is Joshua Sajko. Update: After waiting for Joshua the manager we were offered complimentary breakfast for next morning but no service. Today we came for breakfast and there is a huge lineup outside. While there are at least half unoccupied tables inside. Again shortstaffed and poorly managed. Experience going from bad to worse by the minute.
