My 2 children under 5, my husband, myself and his parents drove 9 hours from northern Michigan to surprise a family member for her birthday. First situation that was a bummer but did get resolved was them telling us our rooms were not conjoining rooms even though my FIL called to make sure they were. Long story short he threw the receptionist a $20 bill and then what do you know they had conjoining rooms. Second situation was probably one of the WORST things you could have happen to you in a hotel. My husband deadbolted our room door, we walked through the joining room door to go get our children from my in laws room. We have no idea how this happened but the conjoining room door slammed shut and what do you know we are locked out of our room. We have our wallets, tablets, car keys, shoes everything locked in the room. Fast forward my FIL goes to the front desk and explains to her what happened. She gave us a new key to try, well that’s not going to work because the door is deadbolted. So we go back up and she says I will have to get in touch with my boss, she lives about 15 min from the hotel. Fast forward again and we had been waiting for over an hour for her to get in touch with her boss. She finally called our room to tell us someone is on there way to help us. Well another 40 min go by and a gentleman knocks on the door and states he was the head maintenance guy. He comes inside the room to then inform us that there’s no possible way that door would just lock on its own and someone has to be in our room and locked it behind us. We repeatedly told him that’s not possible because we are all out of the room. He then goes back to the front door to our room and knocks on it saying “housekeeping” and try’s to use the electric key. We are so confused on why he doesn’t believe us and at this point we are so frustrated with the hotel becusee it was almost 10-10:30 at night and we wanted to go to bed. My FIL asks to talk to the hotel manager immediately because we are not going to bed till that door gets opened, he tells us that that’s not going to happen as the hotel manager is not available. So we follow up to the front desk and ask how none of them have a main key to unlock this door especially for emergencies, I asked them what would happen if my kids were stuck in there. They kept telling us that they have no idea what they would do and so on. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!!! A HARD NO! Huge liability on there part. I asked if we can get a refund on our stay and the guy says that’s not going to happen. I find that this whole situation was handled so unprofessional. Absolutely unacceptable! To end the story my husband ended up breaking the conjoining room with his whole body. The day we were checking out my FIL states we will not be paying for the door. I will be calling corporate to hopefully get some sort of refund back for this inconvenience of a stay. If my husband wouldn’t have broke the door down we literally would have never gotten our stuff.

We called the hotel the morning of our stay to verify the pool was open. We were assured it was and booked over the phone (instead of using Priceline like I normally do). We booked 2 rooms and brought our 5 kids an extra 40 minutes away from our destination AND boarded our dog specifically for a pool. Well on check in we realized the pool wasn’t open and hadn’t been open for some time. Now we’re 40 minutes away from our destination, we paid over $100 to board our dog, and we have 5 kids who are absolutely devastated. We spend over $1000 and month on travel and we will never stay at a holiday inn again.
