Stay: Feb 13-16th on wasted rewards - Upon arrival, I was subjected to intolerable construction conditions, including the removal and replacement of carpets directly adjacent to and down the hallways of my entire floor adn on top of that, a very unsympathetic staff member. I felt like I was being told to endure it because 'it needs to happen at some point'. NOT without prior warning! Why would anybody EVER choose to stay during this kind of construction that should close an entire area of the hotel, as well as the whole floor! Thank god they ran out of material!!! The environment was unacceptable, characterized by overwhelming noise, the smell of old, nasty debris, and intense fumes from new carpeting. This resulted in a scratchy throat and severe allergic reactions the following day. When I needed to communicate with my instructor, I could not without coughing and tearing up. Furthermore, the hallways were filled with waste, and I nearly collided with workers multiple times who just hurried by and said sorry, as if it was a common occurrence, which it became on my multiple trips to my truck to load up to the 3rd floor. When I raised these concerns, the only solution offered by the front desk was to move to a lower floor, which would not have mitigated the noise, but made it worse, being overhead - the staff and I both agreed. The staff appeared unapologetic and suggested this was something guests should simply endure. This was a very uncomfortable situation to be in after a 300-mile drive in rain, traffic, and construction during rush hour. When I contacted customer service two times and got a claim #, they could not guarantee a refund of my points if I chose to check out early. Despite being told management would contact me regarding my case or Customer Service would relay their response to my complaints, I have received no follow-up. I decided to roll the dice and stay another night after I heard they ran out of material, thankfully! But it could have just as easily started right back up the following day. Dumpsters full of carpet that has endured years of filth dont belong around guests!!! Major health and safety concern that the staff turned a blind eye to just to keep the revenue flowing when they should have clearly been closed or open to people who couldn't care less about their health, safety, and sanity! As a loyal customer of over 30 years, I am deeply disappointed by this lack of consideration and the disregard for my health and comfort. I should have been warned of this construction in advance or been advised or strongly suggested to relocate to a sister location, before I arrived, not after 300 miles on the road in a storm and rush hour traffic/construction to try to deal with this situation. Completely ridiculous, and NOBODY should have to deal with this without being WARNED adn if the location is necessary, be warned to bring dust masks and dont show up before 6:30 and wait for the dust to settle before enduring the stench. Who would knowingly subject themselves to this kind of construction situation, and to be disrespected on top of that, NOT OK. Just because they stop banging on knee kickers to place carpet on the floor and base at 6:30 pm is not an excuse for a hotel to operate such renovations while guests endure. Absolute disrespect and lack of consideration for guests who don't demand it but hope for some sort of respect or even just 2 bottles of water upon check in, but the staff is too busy defending the situation to even remember to say thank you for being a member and we are very sorry for the inconvience would have gone a long way, I must say. I guess the kid at the desk was so used to justifying the construction going on that he forgot to have any politeness or sympathy for the thoroughly bewildered and disturbed guests. Weak - at best (Western).
