READ THE REVIEWS BEFORE BOOKING. I truly wish I had. We stayed here briefly while passing through Portland with my pregnant wife and our 2-year-old child. We arrived very late, exhausted, slept a few hours, and went to breakfast in the morning. Breakfast itself was disappointing—poor service, a dark basement-like space with no natural light, and very limited food—but honestly, none of that would have prompted me to write a review. What did? A $300 smoking fee charged to my credit card. Yes, you read that correctly. The hotel, through management (Mr. Ross), claimed that a smoke detector “detected vaping.” Let me repeat the context: me, my pregnant wife, and our 2-year-old child. We do not smoke. We do not vape. My wife booked the room in her name, and I provided my card at check-in. After checkout, my card was charged $300 with no warning, no discussion, and no physical evidence—only a vague claim that “the sensor detected something.” Before writing this review, I spent days calling, emailing, and trying to resolve this calmly and respectfully. During that process, I did something important: I read the reviews. What I discovered is alarming. This is the only Hilton property I could find with a repeated pattern of guests being charged $300 smoking fees they strongly dispute. There are more than 10 similar reviews in just the last few months—families, non-smokers, long-time Hilton guests—many describing nearly identical situations. Other Hilton hotels? No such pattern. This hotel? Over and over again. At that point, it became very clear that this is not an isolated incident. I am sharing this so other travelers—especially families—can make an informed decision. Please read the reviews carefully before booking and check your final bill closely. We stopped here by mistake. I strongly recommend avoiding this hotel.

We stayed at this hotel for three nights. The staff were very polite, kind, and helpful. The suite we stayed in was quite large and spacious, which was definitely a positive point. However, the hotel itself feels old, and especially the bed was very outdated and not very comfortable. Breakfast was included in our stay, but the breakfast area, the quality of the food, and the variety were quite limited and below our expectations.

I am staying in this hotel from 2012. AHotel rooms are big enough. Good for office work and leisure. Many restaurants are there. Breakfast has good option. Omelette station to serve you fresh omlette. One restaurant is there at 1st level for lunch/dinner. Evening snacks are complementary. Try famous Portland street food carts. World of cuisines are in one place.

Do not stay here. Do not stay here. Do not stay here. We booked a king suite for one night as a birthday gift, figured it would be fun to stay a night in Portland. A few hours after check in we got a call saying that somebody was in the lobby asking for a key to our room, we do not know this person and he was not on our reservation list at all. That shouldn't have even gotten as far as a phone call. The lounge and lobby area had paint flaking, stains all over the walls, dust caked everywhere but the tables. Disgusting standards. This one isn't really on the hotel itself, but room service is non existent, the QR code for the menu took us to an about:blank page, and when we called it went straight to dial tone. We had to go down to the actual restaurant and order food to go. On the morning of our checkout, we were hit with a $300 smoking charge for a time that we weren't even in the room. There was absolutely zero smoking. I did research on the sensors they use; it's called a Rest sensor and there is a plethora of issues and complaints online about it for being predatory and giving bogus readings (it said our air quality index was 500 and the air in the room was "hazardous," whatever that means). The employee at the front desk refused to help in a meaningful way and just gave us an email to direct complaints to. This hotel has entirely ruined our vacation, and left a very bad taste in my mouth for Portland. Do not stay here.

I had a very disappointing experience at this Embassy Suites location. After my stay, I was incorrectly charged a smoking fee, despite the fact that neither I nor my guest smoked in the room at any time. I am a non-smoker and fully complied with hotel policies. I immediately went to the front desk to dispute the charge and was told I needed to speak with a manager. After waiting as instructed and following up via email, I was repeatedly redirected and ultimately told to contact the General Manager directly. Unfortunately, the General Manager never responded. What was most frustrating was not just the erroneous charge, but the complete lack of accountability and follow-up from hotel management. A charge this serious should be supported with evidence and handled promptly, neither of which occurred. I would caution future guests to carefully review their final bill and be aware that resolving billing disputes here may be difficult.
