I don’t usually write bad reviews, but there should be awareness… The reservation company that Best Western uses isn’t very good, where the staff put you on hold for long periods of time and then continue to try and up-sale, so after several minutes and back and forth. I ended up staying in a different location. It’s like trying to buy a car and it shouldn’t be this way.

Ok place to spend the night and head out first thing. The room we were in was fine, opening to the parking lot. The bathroom had some scuff marks, but the main room seemed to be in pretty good shape and had a couch. Location is pretty meh, John Day doesn't seem to exactly be a happening place with plentiful dining options. Breakfast was largely as expected from a Best Western, the coffee was not very good though. Also is it necessary to blast Fox News in the breakfast area? I don't need to be exposed to that when I'm starting my day. My interactions with staff were positive. Eh, ok in pinch.

This is long, but bare with me...We chose this hotel because its the only one in town with a hot tub and pool. We get to the pool and find it empty with inflatable swim tubes in the corner. Our kids grab the floaties and we enjoy ourselves for about 20 minutes. Then a member of staff and her 2 children enter the pool. We know this because we've seen her working the front desk. She doesn't acknowledge anyone, but looks visibly unhappy. She walks around the pool collecting toys left behind, apparently by her children. She then approached one of our kids (not a parent) to tell them that the floats are her kids and not for public use and asks for them back. Our kids immediately returned them and let her know that we thought they were for public use. She hands them over to her kids to start using in front of the children she had just taken them from, then sits down in her swimming suit at a table and scrolls on her phone. Still visibly irritated. I chose not to approach her to avoid inevitable conflict in front of about 5 kids. As we start drying off to leave shortly after, one of her kids yells to her "Mom! Theyre leaving. You can finally have the hot tub!" Although she honestly looked mortified when her daughter said the quiet part out loud. Im all for staff perks, but this woman clearly was using this pool for her and her kids personal use while paying customers were made to feel as if we were unwelcome and bothersome. So we just left the area. We already planned to come back in the morning before checkout anyway. The next morning we come in to an ice cold hot tub. We inform the front desk and they tell us that the hot tub was left on overnight by staff. Apparently its been an ongoing issue so the heater and motor are stressed. Is it a coincidence that we felt chased out of the pool the evening before so a staffer and her kids could use the giant floats and have the hot tub to her self, not long before the pool closed for the night and the next morning its freezing from being left on overnight? So we paid extra for access to a pool and hot tub and were cut short by the staff the hotel employs. Cool.

Clean comfy room. Great service and a really good breakfast, loved the strawberries and whip cream for the waffles.

Very unfortunate stay. The people that work there seem like they might be other guests or homeless the way they dressed and had their kids with them. Didn't say welcome, hello and have a good day or any anything just very depressing Vibe from the front. Lights half off. No uniforms. They were unfriendly and unwelcoming.... And we were charged $217/night. Sheets were grimy, room needs a deep clean, The heating unit rattled and made noise all night. We didn't get any sleep. We changed our plans so that we would not come back through specifically to avoid this location.
