Choose your room carefully! We were excited to try the new Lightwell Hotel after wine tasting in the area. We booked a City Corner View room but got an internal room, with views of the roof and alley. The worst part: the alley contained a compressor or air conditioning unit that was extremely loud and turned on every 30-45 min. The hotel is aware, as they leave ear plugs on the night stands. While the room was clean the noise from the compressor made for an unpleasant stay. I'd think twice about staying here again.

I’m local person so I wasn’t staying at the hotel, but when I went to have a little snack in their lobby bar. I was greeted by bartender Christina. Then when I sat down at a table I was greeted by my wonderful server Sam who got me water almost instantly. Even before he return with my water another server Amber checked on me to see if someone checked on me and I said. I was very surprised for how busy it was in the lobby bar there. I felt very well cared for as a customer. Will come back very soon!! Also I had the Za’atar fries with the sumac ranch and I wish they sold it by the gallon so good! Side note I think they do music Wedsenday nights with a local band which was awesome!! If you’re a local you have to try it as a once or twice. I think it would be a nice date night with a partner!

The Lightwell was an amazing hotel. From the coffee and pastries (I recommend the fig smoothie) at Basecamp to the soaking pool in the spa and everything in between this is a five-star experience. I was in town for a friend's birthday and we spent the night there. I had an interior room, in the lightwell, and I was worried that it would be dark. I was wrong, the warm light from the center lightwell filled my room and it was perfect. My room was clean and tidy, and the bed was soft and comfortable. The location is unbeatable. Everything I needed (and more!) was within a short walk. I'd recommend The Lightwell Hotel to all Hood River visitors.

After reading about the hotel renovation in the Oregonian I knew we had to go. We usually make Hood River a day trip but decided to book a room for two nights. Before we checked in we walked the Mosier Tunnel Trail. It is always a beautiful walk. Afterwards we ate at Piadina, the food restaurant inside Hood River Brewing Co. (2 blocks west of hotel). Great focaccia veggie sandwich! Upon checking in to the Lightwell I was struck by how open the lobby / bar area was. The reception staff were friendly and welcoming. Our room was on the fourth floor next to the rooftop patio. The room was very nice. Even though it was considered a larger room, was still a bit tight. We were expecting that considering the hotel age. I suggest you stroll around the hotel starting on the fourth floor and walk down the stairs. There are several things that will make you smile as you walk about. Three of our favorite were: PDX carpet, the atrium glass art and the walls in the basement hot tub room. While in Hood River go to the History Museum of Hood River. It’s a special place to learn about the Native Americans and the Japanese Interment Camps. Thank you Lightwell! I wish I had remembered staff names. The only name I caught was Amber. She and everyone were pleasant

While the hotel looks nice, it’s really more of lipstick on a pig. I understand the hotel is old, but this place was ridiculously loud. There were random knocks the entire night, the loud, clangy pipes in the walls were constantly running, the walls were so thin that I could hear our neighbor snoring and initially thought it was my husband it was so loud. The windows were also never replaced in the remodel because I was woken up at 2AM by people on the street who could have been in my room. I have stayed in large cities and I understand noise from traffic, etc, but this was extreme. My husband and I got almost no sleep (my husband none), which was not ideal since we had a 5 hour drive home the next day. There were earplugs (which I shouldn’t have to use), but they were of little help. It was also burning hot in the room. There is a thermostat, but I sadly discovered at 3am that it didn’t work and it was stuck on 72. In addition to the noise, this hotel just does not live up to its $260/night price. We were not greeted even remotely warmly when we arrived, which left a sour taste in our mouths. The room itself looks nice, but that’s about it. The shower did not seem overly clean and had several different hairs in it. For a “luxury” hotel, the room was very basic. There was no mini fridge, no microwave, no minibar, no iron/steamer, no glasses, no coffee maker, no full length mirror, and no slippers for the spa -even though they did have nice robes. If I had to say something good, I would say the hotel is conveniently located. The spa and sauna are also very nice, but don’t make up for the miserable experience my husband and I had trying to actually sleep in the hotel. You are much better off saving your money and staying elsewhere.
