This is our favorite hotel. For over 20 years now we have been staying at this hotel, but we stopped going as often 10 years ago as it didn’t seem worth the money asked due to it being a bit run down, not totally kept up to date or very clean. We decided to try it again though about 6-7 years ago and we’re glad we did. That day we came back to stay after not being there several years the new manager and his wife were at the hotel in the lobby after they just moved there. We met them at checkin and found them to be good people, very down to earth and pleasant to talk with. Within a year of their moving there we returned and noticed the hotel becoming better and better with each stay. Cleaner, better breakfasts, better wifi, additions to the fitness room, etc. The hotel was always nice, but the new manger has definitely brought it to up to a higher level. The rooms are always very clean as are the hallways, breakfast area and lobby. Even the baseboards have no dust in the common areas, which impresses me as Ive been to many hotels that do not bother with such things, unfortunately. The staff is always helpful and friendly here, too and we appreciate their hospitality.
As for what all makes it special:
Breakfast until 10 (not 9 like so many hotels do). They have made to order omelets, on some days it says they make French toast, but even without that there’s so many hot and cold picks for your breakfast that you’ll definitely leave full and ready for a long day of beach and shop exploring. The breakfast room has fabulous views!
Rooms are very roomy, comfy beds, many balcony rooms available. They allow pets and are very strict (thankfully so if you do not have a pet you’re not getting any pet carryover scents) on that policy making sure you’re going to a pet only room if you bring your pup with you. We have stayed in both kinds of rooms, once when we brought our 25lb dog and other times without him in a non pet friendly room and both rooms were great. We couldn’t tell which was which, no pet smell or pet “residuals” thankfully in the pet friendly room.
Amenities:
The fitness room is fabulous, every piece of equipment one can need. Easy to access. A nice sized pool is indoors and downstairs. It’s heated, has amazing views of the river and also has a shower area, a sauna and hot tub. Just off the Bobby they have some games you can take to your room too. We’ve borrowed a few games and a book or two during our stay. There’s plenty to watch on demand too and the TVs are nice size not some 19” ha ha. The internet also gets 5 stars, it was fast and we had no issues. As for a business room, I don’t need one on my trips to Florence, therefore I wasn’t really looking for one so I’m unsure if there is a business room for guests. There is a separate area I saw that people could sit and be alone in and that may be where it’s located if they do have such an area.
Long review, but I hope it helps you if you’re considering staying at this hotel. If you stayed here over 8 years ago and found it a bit dirty or not totally up to par or worth the money, I’d say try it again. It’s come a long ways with upgraded, redecorated rooms, an impressive cleanliness and a breakfast you’ll find amazing and worth at least $20 (per person) which is a great saver for your budget too. If you have little ones you’ll definitely want to stay here thanks to their amazing pool and the breakfast. Don’t forget to ask for a hot cookie too!
