I stayed at this Holiday Inn Express from October 29th, 2025 to December 2nd, 2025 with my 1 year old twin sons after being placed there by the city. We were there because I had to leave our home due to domestic abuse by the mother of my children. It was an emergency. I left with my babies to keep them safe. We entered homelessness at the beginning of winter. I was working, caring for twin toddlers, and trying to rebuild our lives. We were not causing problems. We were a displaced family trying to survive. Within the first few nights, my sons began getting covered in bites. I reported it immediately because I suspected bedbugs. Staff went straight into denial. They asked if I “knew for sure.” They did a quick visual inspection and said they saw nothing. The bites did not stop. For the next couple of weeks, my children were actively being bitten. I kept reporting it. Over and over. I took my sons to a doctor because the hotel told me to get it checked. The doctor said the bites looked consistent with bedbugs. I brought that back to the hotel. They still denied it and suggested it was a rash. No proper detection methods were used. No dog. No thorough inspection. Just dismissal while my babies were being bitten in their sleep. The manager in charge of Floor 2, where city placed families were staying, showed clear animosity toward me. When I raised the bedbug issue with her, she denied it. I went to the main manager instead. After that, the Floor 2 manager came to my room angry that I went above her. She confronted me inside my room and gave me grief for escalating the issue. I was a homeless father with twin babies being bitten, and instead of help, I was being intimidated. Eventually I found multiple bedbugs myself and brought proof downstairs. This was on a Thursday evening. I was told I had to stay in the infested room until Tuesday, even though other rooms were empty. They claimed they didn’t want to spread them by moving us. My children had been getting bitten since day one. We did not bring them in. When I refused to return to a room full of bedbugs, I stayed in the lobby and contacted my shelter worker. I was then told I could not use the word “bedbugs” in the lobby. There was also separation between Floor 2 guests and other hotel guests. We were not allowed to use the pool or gym. When I needed to print forms for my children, one manager approved it while the Floor 2 manager told me to go to the library down the road. The exterminator eventually treated the room. On the morning of December 3rd, 2025 around 9 AM, I was told I had to leave immediately. I had been living there over a month with twin babies, toys, clothes, food, and belongings. This was not a simple checkout. I had to argue just to get a couple of hours to move everything because I could not transfer our life in one trip. We were forced out in December, in winter, and I had to scramble to secure emergency shelter for my children. Being homeless does not mean being dirty. I did not bring bedbugs into that hotel. My children were bitten from the beginning. I reported it for weeks and was dismissed. When it became undeniable, I was blamed. Months later I have stable housing and no bedbugs. No family escaping abuse should be treated this way.
