My room (King bed with sofa) was clean, comfortable, and had a good layout, although I wish there were microwaves in the suites. The hotel itself was fine, although they are doing some renovations in the lobby, so it's a bit unfinished looking.
The service was okay, but I was not offered any water bottles or even the classic DoubleTree warm cookie.
Breakfast was not included with my room. $300 for one night should include breakfast (extra $28), especially since I've stayed in a full suite in the nearby Homewood Suites with a full, decadent breakfast, for $250/night.
Otherwise it was a fine stay for a short time. Not sure if I'd stay here on longer visits as I like to be able to bring food back to my room and heat it up in the evening.
I recently stayed at this hotel while on a work trip.
What I liked:
- Great location! Super central. Close to restaurants, shopping centres, grocery stores, the canal, conference venues and more
- The room was nicely laid out
- Bed was incredibly comfortable with two different firmness of pillows to choose from. Sheets looked clean
- Many room lighting options to choose from
- The heating system made zero noise (not certain whether it was even on but I wasn't cold)
- There is a gym (weights, bikes, treadmill, etc.) on the 5th floor
- There is a mini fridge in the room
- Took a shower in the morning and at night, and the water remained nice and hot, which was great
- Washrooms have soft close toilet lids so you don't have to listen to people dropping the lids all night
- No bugs
- Check-in/out was quick
What I didn't like so much:
- There is no shuttle between the airport and the hotel
- The lobby is being renovated and looks quite bad
- Gym equipement is a bit dated but functions
- I paid for breakfast in the hotel restaurant and it was $31 with tax, which is expensive for a basic buffet breakfast of bread, cereal, eggs, sausage, bacon, select fruit, etc. They alternate between French toast days and pancake/waffle days, and I was not there on a pancake/waffle day unfortunately. They provide teeny tiny child-sized glasses for juice. To top things off, the waitress brought me my bill while I was eating, which I found rude. I hadn't been there long, and it wasn't like the place was busy. Only three tables were occupied, including mine, and there were two wait staff. I went to Loblaws the next day instead (only an 11 minute walk away) and bought two days worth of breakfast items for less than $10 total
- They provide shower gel and lotion (in refillable bottles), but both are very basic and not moisturizing, so bring your own if that is important to you
- I originally booked a junior suite (pictures looked amazing!) but downgraded to a King Supreme after staff said that the suites were all either next to the elevators (ex: 514, 515, 614,615, etc.) or above the dumpster/loading dock (ex: 426, 526, etc.), neither of which was a great option for me, a light sleeper, as another reviewer said garbage pickup happens three times in the morning starting at 5am, and another reviewer said they could hear the dinging of the elevator and the sound of it going up and down from their room
- I could hear very very very minor traffic noise from my courtyard-facing room (nothing bothersome at all), but the room doors slam (loudly) when people come and go and that made it hard to sleep even with earplugs
Not certain whether I would stay here again due to the poor sleep, but the location can't be beat.
