First impression from front desk staff was not welcoming, almost like I was disturbing there time. It ended up ok but not the typical welcome

This place was brutal. When checking in the person complaining about being under staffed. Elevator didn’t work so had to drag all our luggage up 3 levels. Ice machine leaking. Play structure is disgustingly dirty (look from 3rd level). Was told second day that housekeeping was ‘on demand’ (??) as they had not cleaned the room. During a rainstorm the roof leaked and the pool drains overflowed into the pool. Only redeeming quality was a maintenance man that was sent to deal with housekeeping who was great. I’m surprised he was positive because everyone else clearly didn’t care about anything. Stay in a different town if you have to. Public health should know about the sewage going into the pool.
Just got off the phone with Best Western customer service (ticket 10032). They offered to upgrade my status to Gold and 5000 points. I said that I planned to call Public Health because of the sewage in the pool. Then they commented that they cannot continue with restitution if I did that. So basically a bribe? They can keep their points. Not staying with that brand again.

My wife and I stayed here about 10 years ago, and had a pretty good time. The rooms were clean, the staff was friendly, and overall we had a pretty good experience. So when we were looking for someplace to stay now with our two young daughters, we figured this would be a pretty safe choice.
Upon arriving, it was clear that the decade had not been kind to this place. It just appeared rundown. Ok, we get it. It's been 10 years and I was comparing pre-Covid now with post-Covid. A lot has happened since the last time we stayed. And older doesn't always mean unclean or terrible, so we continued with opimism.
We checked in and were given the keys to our room. Let me explain how we booked the room before I move on with my review....
I really wanted to book from the official Best Western website or app, but all the listing were labeled "Non Refundable Booking." Every single room. Anyone traveling with two kids knows that that's a huge risk. I'll never book a room listed as non refundable. So unfortunately, that forced me to check with third party apps to see if I could get a refundable option. Luckily, booking with Travelocity gave me that option. So we booked. Also, this hotel has was called The Atrium. This is a huge recreation area in the center of the hotel. They've also got 3 levels of rooms that open up into this recreational area. We absolutely DID NOT want one of these rooms. The room listing on both their official site and Travelocity were listed as "Atrium View," "Pet Friendly" and them rooms with neither specification. We figured ones that didn't specify "Atrium View" in the listing description, were non atrium view rooms. We were wrong.
When we got to our room, a pet-friendly room (one I didn't necessarily want), we were surprised to find that it was an atrium view. I didn't book a atrium view room! So when explaining this to the woman at the front desk, we were met with zero sympathy or even a willingness to help. Her response? "You booked with a third party, so there's nothing I can do!" She also claimed that all the listings on their site were refundable despite explicitly stating that they weren't. After an uncomfortable back and forth, she agreed to move our room to a non-Pet-friendly room, but still an Atrium View. The pet friendly room stunk to high heaven of animals, so we requested to move out.
After the stressful ordeal, we decided to take a dip in their pool with our daughters. On their website it says, "Enjoy our heated pool" so we were really looking forward to that. Guess what? The water was freezing. We thought maybe it was just a coincidence, nope. We got in every night of our stay, and we never experienced a heated pool.
Let me also give a little "heads up" about the atrium arrangement. This space is treated as a giant, multi-family slumber party sleep over. I've never seen anything so ghetto in my life. 3 floors of families just bunking out in community space. all the door perpetually opened, kids running everywhere, community crockpots, personal belongings thrown everywhere, and just general chaos. It's like these people booked the hotel to camp out in the atrium all weekend. It looked like some trailer park backyard community barbecue. And every time you wanted to get to the pool, you had to walk through this. It was nuts. Never again.
Let me just leave off with a little review of the rooms themselves. I will say this, they were clean for the most part. However, they are in desperate need of upgrading/updating. Things just appeared old. They still had the old carpeting, which was stained. Things just really need a refresh. Overall though, it wasn't the worst experience I've had in a hotel room.
We probably won't be back. Even though our daughters loved the pool, I just don't think that offered enough positive to deal with the other negatives we encountered during this stay. Should they eventually update and apply some regulations to the Atrium Community Sleepovers, then maybe we'll give them another try.
This was a huge disappointment.
The pool was freezing, and not in good shape. Seemed very dirty and not inviting. When thenwebsite says there are waterside, you should state that its only for toddlers. We had very disappointed kids.
Our room was freezing so someone had to.come and fix it for us. One of the services available to us said "complimentary 24 hr coffee bar in lobby" and when I asked about it, the man at the counter didn't even look up at me and said "not anymore. Just until 11:00am".
Complimentary breakfast - which Best Western is known for - is also non-existent. They want $20/adult and $15/kids for breakfast. We had no channels on our TV. All French, or adult channels. No guide and when scrolling theough, my kids saw a naked man butt. Lovely. Ridiculous for a family hotel.
We won't be back.
We stayed at this hotel on March 24th to celebrate our son’s birthday, but unfortunately our experience was very disappointing.
Upon arrival, the room (210) was not properly cleaned. We found dirty socks and underwear under the bed, along with visible trash, crumbs, and dust in multiple areas of the room (under beds, on the floor, TV, and cabinets). The bathtub also had rust stains and appeared unclean, so we were unable to use it to bathe our children.
In addition, the toilet was not functioning properly and eventually stopped flushing entirely overnight. Since our children were already asleep, we were unable to address the issue at that time.
There was also no cell service in the whole hotel, which made it difficult to arrange anything externally. When we tried asking the front desk for food options that delivered past 9:30pm, they had no suggestions or guidance, and we were essentially left without any options for the night.
We brought these concerns up at checkout and received a brief apology, but no meaningful resolution was offered. Due to the conditions, we had to leave earlier than planned because we couldn’t properly use the washroom or bathe our kids after using the pool.
Overall, this stay did not meet basic cleanliness, maintenance, or service expectations, especially considering the price paid. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and improves both housekeeping and guest support.
