About

Historical Landmark
The reproduction ashery and sawmill were built on their original locations and opened to the public in 2003. Missionaries lead guided tours through the two buildings. Together they show the united efforts of the early Saints living in Kirtland to consecrate their time, talents, labor, and worldly means to build up the temple, care for the poor, and preach the gospel.

Thank heaven for the Kirtland Ashery and Mill! A super unique spot on the Kirtland tour, what I learned here from the missionaries giving the tour left quite an impression. After learning what went on in the ashery and mill, how they worked, what came from them, etc. I realized how much I needed to up my game in living the gospel. The people of Kirtland were all in, completely and wholly invested in doing anything and everything they could to build up the restored gospel on the earth. You learn the real value of seemingly insignificant ash and how much determined people are capable of. The Ashery and Mill are an integral part of the overall Kirtland experience.

We traveled about 1 1/2 hours to see all that Kirkland had to offer and it was well worth our time. It was a wonderful tour visiting the different places. What a great guide we had and met everyone at the visitors center , all very nice. I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in history. The ashery was a great experience.
