  I stayed at Candlewood Suites Independence, which shares amenities with Holiday Inn Cleveland-S Independence, and this was one of the most frustrating hotel experiences I’ve had. When booking, the amenities (like the pool) are advertised, but what they don’t tell you is that your Candlewood key card does NOT give you access. You have to go to the Holiday Inn front desk to request a separate key just to use what was already included in your stay. That alone is inconvenient and poorly communicated. The bigger issue was the service at the Holiday Inn front desk. The employee (name was Shelly/Sheila or something similar) was extremely unprofessional. She had an attitude from the start, questioned why I needed access, and acted like she didn’t even know about the shared amenities between the two hotels. I was left waiting about 30 minutes while multiple people were helped before me, some even cutting in line. During that time, she showed the same rude attitude to other guests as well. After going back to Candlewood, a staff member kindly called over for me and apologized, but even after that I returned and still waited another 15 minutes with no urgency or effort to help. To be clear, the poor experience was entirely due to this specific front desk employee at the Holiday Inn. The gentleman at Candlewood Suites was helpful, professional, and made an effort to fix the situation, which I appreciated. In the end, I NEVER received the key and was unable to take my child to the pool at all. We arrived around 7 PM, and between the confusion and poor service, the entire window to use the pool was basically wasted before it closed at 9. Offering amenities but making them this difficult to access and pairing that with this level of customer service is unacceptable. This experience completely affected my stay and honestly made me feel like I wasted my money. Management needs to do a better job communicating how amenities work between these properties and seriously address situations like this with their front desk staff. I would not stay here again based on this experience.

  This hotel is placed in an odd manner behind the Holiday Inn. Many of the mentioned amenities are shared with that Holiday Inn. The main entrance to the Candlewood Suites in tucked in a corner with no covered area or parking for checking in. The majority of the parking is at the furthest end of the building away from the front desk, lobby and elevators. It's a nice place to stay but not very well set up for convenient access.

  Upon arriving everything had seemed okay. There was an older gentleman who was a manager who was extremely friendly at 11pm when my gf and I walked in and asked for availability since our power was out at home. We got into a room pretty quickly, lobby was fairly cleaned for 11pm. When we got to our room the first thing we noticed was debris by the curtains as if they were untouched and the floor was not vacuumed. Additionally, the toaster and the dishwasher were clearly dirty as well. The side table to the bed also was greasy. One of us went to take a shower and noticed that there was crusty streaks coming from the vent and some things stuck to the wall near the bathroom sink. But the NASTIEST was when I went to sit in the recliner they have in their rooms. It was 100% never moved in who knows how long. Lots of debris, an empty skittles package and even A USED ELECTRIC TOOTH BRUSH came out. I truly expected more. Noise all hours of the night people in halls slamming doors. We was even placed in a connected room with a women who had a dog why barked at every sound. This definitely didn’t display high commitment to cleanliness. I almost didn’t want to sleep in the bed in fear that the sheets may not have been changed. That’s how nasty and disappointing this visit was.
