Stayed at the DoubleTree Downtown Cleveland recently. The location is very good and makes it easy to get around the city. It’s also very close to the Browns stadium, which is convenient if you’re in town for a game. The staff were kind and welcoming, which I appreciated.
That being said, the hotel itself could really use some updates. The rooms feel quite outdated, and there aren’t many amenities or options available. Things just feel a bit plain and worn down. The cleanliness wasn’t the best either, especially in the bathroom. It honestly looked like something from an old horror movie with the way it was set up and how old everything felt. All in all, it’s a fine place if you just need somewhere to sleep and want to be close to everything downtown. It’s a good choice if you’re just staying for a Browns game, but outside of that, it’s not the best compared to other options.

When checking in, front desk asked if I parked in garage. I said yes and that was the end of the conversation. When we left we asked if we needed to leave room keys there front desk lady said yes. When we left parking garage hotel staff just happened to be passing letting us know we needed to use our room keys to leave as we were already charged with our room. We explained that we weren’t informed to which he said we had to have been told. No, positive we weren’t. Besides that the wallpaper was peeling off all the walls and ceilings, hair throughout the room/bathroom, shower water did not get hot even on the hottest setting, microwave was unplugged. We will not be returning to that location. My husband and I come to Cleveland a couple times a year and will be sure to choose a different hotel moving forward. Don’t waste your money.
If you value your health, do not stay at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Cleveland downtown Lakeside. This place should be evaluated by the health department and shuttered. It is a health hazard. The mold is overwhelming. The smells are incredible. Then there was a leak. The ceiling fell down in the restaurant area so you know the leak Was not new. The water was turned off for a full day. Needless to say, you are unable to flush a toilet. Beside the mold and human waste unable to be flushed.I have pictures. I am Now having a discussion with Hilton to retrieve my points. So far they have been very uncooperative. The only thing I can say to the person trying to enjoy the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame or any of Cleveland’s lovely sites is “don’t stay at this hotel.”
My Reservation was October 11-14. Needless to say we did not stay the reservation. My Case # with Hilton is #253957108
My Confirmation Reservation # was 54815162. There were 4 people 2 rooms on this reservation.
The points used were 270,000 .

I checked in about an hour ago. I don’t mind that the hotel is older, but there are a few issues worth noting. The hot water in my sink isn’t working, and the walls don’t block sound well — I can clearly hear conversations from the next room. The front desk team could be more attentive when guests walk up, though they did try to help me find a spoon and plate from the attached restaurant.
That said, the experience at the bar was disappointing. I understand I wasn’t a paying bar customer yet and that the restaurant may be operated separately from the hotel, but I was directed there by the front desk. The bartender was short with me, slow to help, and made a rude remark as I walked away. I was under the impression that I could use my $15 food and beverage credit there, but after that interaction, I’ve decided not to dine there tonight.
I stayed at the DoubleTree in Cleveland last week, and this was my second (and definitely last) time here. I honestly cannot understand how this hotel is charging the rates it charges for the current condition of the property. It feels extremely old, dirty, and neglected — and the whole place has a stale smell that hits you the second you walk into the room.
Let me be specific.
The room:
* The window frames and sills were full of grime and dust that looked like it had been building up for a long time. You get the feeling nobody has cleaned in the corners or edges for months.
* The carpet felt sticky in places and just generally tired and worn. There were cables running along the floor in a way that did not feel safe or professional, more like something improvised.
* The walls and doors were scuffed and stained, especially around the bathroom area. You can literally see hand marks and scratches that haven’t been cleaned or repainted.
* The room had a strong "old hotel" smell, like humidity, old carpet, and cleaning product trying (and failing) to cover it.
The bathroom:
* The tub is chipped and looks like it's been repainted badly and then left to peel again.
* The caulking around the tub and tiles is discolored and doesn’t look hygienic.
* The drain area and fixtures just felt worn out, like something from a budget motel on the side of a highway, not something you expect from this brand or this price point.
This is not about being “not brand new.” I travel, I understand older buildings. This is about maintenance and cleanliness. It’s about basic standards. The condition of the room made me genuinely uncomfortable.
The view from the room is actually nice — you can see the lake and some of the city — but honestly, that’s the only positive thing I can say.
And again, this is not based on a one-off bad night. This was my second stay here. The first time I thought, “OK, maybe I was unlucky, maybe they’re renovating.” I gave it another chance. After this last stay, I can say it clearly: it’s not improving. It’s just in bad shape.
For the price they are asking, this is absolutely not worth it. Old, dirty, and with a persistent smell that you don’t forget. I will not be coming back, and I would not recommend it unless you have no other option and location is the only thing that matters to you.
I’m adding photos so you can see what I mean instead of just taking my word for it.
