My Wife & I spent the night on New Year's Eve, arriving early evening before nightfall. We were greeted by Angela in valet who told us to park in front of the hotel & she would move the car soon. It was a little confusing at first, regarding a text I was supposed to have received immediately after checking in with Angela, but I finally got the text a little later from the Metropolis parking company I've used in the past. It included the rate per hr price, which was confusing, considering valet is $42 for a 24hr period. However, we were assured the parking would be added to our room so we wouldn't have to worry about paying online, which was convenient to have it on same folio as room. Angela was pleasant & provided great customer service. We proceeded to check in with Mona at front desk, who was friendly as well. Later in the night, we encountered James at the front desk, who was also friendly. After arriving at our room on the 7th floor, we walked into what felt like an icebox with the temperature displaying a cold 55 degrees. We turned the heat on, then called the front desk to Mona to ask if I could turn on the emergency heat to make it warm faster. She couldn't give me a definite answer, however, she was on task with sending Andy from maintenance up to our room quickly. Andy was very pleasant as well, checking our thermostat, the vents & explained how the emergency heat worked and not to use it. After Andy confirmed everything was working properly, he offered to come back later that night if we needed him, although we didn't. It just took time for the room to warm to 75 degrees of about an increase of 10 degrees every hour. The experience of a cold room on a winter night was not pleasant as we planned on taking a nap before going down to the restaurant to eat dinner, then going to Fountain Square & ice skating rink to take photos only. By the time we did have dinner in Mavricks restaurant & went to take photos, upon returning to the room, it was a comfortable 75 degrees. Chris at the bar was the only one servicing everyone who came in to eat. He not only knew how to multi-task quite well, but he was very personable & provided excellent customer service as much as he could with the bar being slightly busy. Our meal consisted of a flatbread pizza, fries and chicken salad. The portion size was good as well as good taste. However, the menu could have been a little more extensive for a historic full service hotel, but we were happy with what we got. Upon waking in the morning, we went down to front desk & met Trena who knew how to provide excellent service. We then had breakfast at the coffee Cafe next to the lobby. We found out it wasn't owned by the hotel as it was a locally owned Cafe. The staff there were nice, but the breakfast sandwiches we got didn't provide a wow sensation, but even though they were simple sandwiches, the taste was good along with our lattes. With the hotel being well known in the city, it would be better to have a full service restaurant for breakfast offering a buffet or at least a more extensive menu you usually find at other hotels. In any case, the breakfast done the job. Upon departure, Toni from valet was very pleasant & she quickly retrieved our car within 10min, rather than the 30min estimated wait we were told it could potentially take upon check-in. All of the team we encountered knew how to give top notch service. The hotel itself is very close to several restaurants and we felt safe walking at night to Fountain Square and also the skating rink. The only weakness we saw about the hotel was that there is not really a view, even from the 7th floor, as other buildings are blocking the view, but we didn't mind too much, since there was no ocean around. We would definitely stay here again, just because of the excellent service, but hope that the rooms temperature would be adjusted to a comfortable level before checking in, especially since knowing the room was going to be occupied from the e-checkin the day before. Thanks for a great experience.
We stayed here for one night. I had much higher expectations for this hotel. Considering it is one of the oldest hotels in the city, I was surprised by the lack of historical charm. The lobby was plain, the lounge was ok, but didn't have a lot of ambiance. The bartender was working alone and running the whole time we were there. The hotel and room were clean. The check in process was easy. In the morning when we went down for breakfast after 7 that was supposed to open at 630 the doors were closed and the front desk lady said they weren't there and she didn't know where they were. So, no one called to say they were running late and about when they would be in? Also, is breakfast prepared by one person? The weather was very cold, but this hotel has an obligation to uphold a service that people pay extra money to have. The ladies at the front desk were very nonchalant and said "well, the weather is bad." It was really cold, we weren't knee deep in snow. A night in this hotel and extra for breakfast wasn't cheap and I am very disappointed in this hotel. I would not stay there again.
