I had a very pleasant stay at the InterContinental New York Barclay. The hotel strikes a nice balance between classic style and modern comfort, and the rooms are spacious and well-equipped. The location is a big advantage—very close to Grand Central, which makes getting around the city easy, while still being in a relatively calm area. The staff were consistently professional and attentive, which made the overall experience smooth and enjoyable. Overall, it’s a solid choice for both business and leisure stays in New York, offering comfort, convenience, and a polished atmosphere.

Room and service were great, restaurant was kinda disappointing. [detailed room notes listed separately] Pros - got multiple welcome gifts via The Edit (2 chocolates, a huge pack of chocolate biscuits) - Friendly staff Neutral - got a choice of 600 IHG points or a welcome drink given my Platinum status, let’s see… $4 or $20 LOL (but annoying that it was max $20 when all the drinks were $23 (!)+ - breakfast selection for the full buffet was pretty decent, but at a crazy price ($60/person after tax & tip!). Covered for me via The Edit, but still a shocker. Cons - slow elevator - Restaurant was meh. $59 lamb was pretty bland and small portion :(. - Breakfast last day was pandemonium, long line, 15 minutes to be seated, no espresso drink or omelette due to them being understaffed / overtraffic'd :( (so folks aren't getting their money's worth, unfortunately)

This hotel has so many components that should add up to a great hotel (eg, location, amazing water pressure, comfortable beds, a few remarkably exceptional staff), but time after time, they fail to stick the landing on the easy stuff and as an IHG loyalist, I find this unforgivable. I’ve never seen a Front Desk service less solution oriented. It’s almost as if they have given up all hope that customers matter. I came for a loyalty stay and left with over $200 in fees, despite the hotel completely lacking amenities that I needed. Paint was peeling off the walls in what would’ve ended up being a $600 a night hotel room if I had not used points. No one had bothered to even refill the coffee supplies. It breaks my heart because in every way this hotel should be magic, but the fee obsessed management needs real change.

My wife and I stayed at the InterContinental New York Barklay off and on for about a month while visiting our first granddaughter. We chose the InterContinental New York Barclay due to it’s proximity to Grand Central Terminal and the subway lines. There were plenty of great restaurants in the area and we were close to the Theater district. We could not of been happier with our selection. The rooms were all generous in size (especially for NYC) and we were able to get a microwave and refrigerator delivered to the room. We utilized the gym when it fit our schedule and started each day with a delicious buffet breakfast in The Parlour. But what really made our stay special was the caring and attentive staff. Every staff member we met (from bellhop to front desk to restaurant) went above and beyond to make our stay special. A special shout out to the house keeping staff who kept our room spotless and worked around our comings and goings. And another special shout out to Aimee who let everyone know we were first time grandparents (and even gifted our granddaughter a Barkley Bear stuffed animal). We truly loved our time at the Barklay and we plan to be back often.

The style of the hotel is cute, but it’s one of those hotels that tries to convince you it’s better than it is. The check in guy was rude. I arrived early (these self proclaimed nice hotels almost never allow early check in so I wasn’t expecting a yes I was just hoping) and asked if I could get a text or call when the room is ready (which cheap Marriott’s will do lol) and he gave me some weird speech about privacy. Like no. You people just don’t want to do it and ok whatever. That’s the type of luxury hotel I expected it to be. And when I asked what’s a reasonable time to expect early check in and he couldn’t be bothered to answer that question either and went on some tangent about needing time to clean. Like no kidding ? I know how hotels work. He didn’t even look at me when he spoke lmao. Like it’s just rude manners for customer service. He allowed me to “check in” and took my card … gee thanks. There’s not crap to do in here besides their breakfast buffet which is equivalent to a holiday inn for me. They try to come across as fancy so they can over charge but it’s super basic. And the service over there was terrible too. There were tons of empty tables but the staff acted like it was a hassle and you gotta wait for some guy to bring you coffee for another 15 minutes. Then the guy brought me a 60$ bill when I ate a couple pieces of fruit and had two little cups of coffee because I didn’t technically have a room number yet. Like okay fine but maybe the woman should have said something when she was seating me considering there’s a ton of people loitering around waiting to check in so I suspect a lot of us would wander in there because what else would you do ? There’s just a bunch of empty space. It’s just not a 4 star hotel experience. They are in New York City so they figure they can do the bare minimum and people will pay to stay here either way 🤷🏼‍♀️ welcome to New York.
