The Millennium Hilton New York One UN Plaza feels like a hotel that was once truly grand but is now starting to show its age. While the property still has an elegant structure and offers excellent views — especially from the guest rooms — the overall style feels somewhat dated compared to newer options in the area.
The location is solid for anyone wanting to stay in Midtown, and the room itself was comfortable and functional. I appreciated the ample storage, good lighting, and the convenience of having two refrigerators. Housekeeping staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating, making sure we had everything we needed throughout the stay.
On the other hand, the front desk service left something to be desired. The staff didn’t seem particularly attentive or professional, and a simple inquiry about ice was met with a somewhat dismissive response.
Overall, while the stay was pleasant enough and the views were a highlight, the experience didn’t quite match what I’d expect for the price point. I’d rate it four stars at most and would likely explore other nearby options next time.

We stayed at the Millennium Hilton New York One UN Plaza, and it was truly a wonderful experience. The hotel is located right by the United Nations Headquarters and the East River, which makes it a very secure and peaceful area.
When you arrive, you’ll notice security guards with dogs checking luggage — completely understandable given its location beside the U.N. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. There’s no bottled water in the room, but the concierge was happy to provide it upon request.
They also offer a daily credit, which we used for drinks and breakfast ,it was honored without any issue.
The location is excellent: about a 20–25 minute walk to Times Square or Fifth Avenue, and honestly, walking was often faster than taking an Uber due to New York traffic.
Our corner room had a spectacular view of the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, and the East River ,absolutely stunning!
Overall, we were very happy with the service, the staff, and the food quality. Highly recommended for anyone visiting New York who wants comfort, security, and beautiful views.

We picked this hotel for its view and location, and it has far exceeded our expectations. Brandon, who welcomed us at check-in was incredibly kind and thoughtful — even surprising us with a amazing present that made us feel truly special. Such a genuine gesture and warm hospitality! The service, atmosphere, and view were all perfect — we couldn’t have asked for a better stay.
Totally don’t understand people’s issues with this place at all. Had a lovely week there. Yes the hotel is old and dated and not the cheapest but it is New York. The additional credit you get to use downstairs in the cafe. The security deposit as long as you don’t trash the place is refunded (100 dollars a night). It was all communicated to me before we went. Location is a little out the way, grand central probably closest subway station really. Bus stop down towards the UN building. The views are superb, obvs can’t comment on that aspect for every room but ours was amazing. Room service is great and all staff were helpful.
TLDR : there’s literally no issue at all with this hotel, align your expectations to what it is - a medium priced hotel in New York. Don’t hesitate, just go book. Absolutely will stay again.
My recent stay at the Millennium Hilton New York One UN Plaza offered a mix of excellent views and disappointing service, alongside mandatory fees that guests should be aware of.
The Room and Early Check-in
I found the room to be spacious and the river view I received after paying an $80 upgrade was worth it. This upgrade also allowed for a 1 pm check-in, as opposed to the standard 4 pm time.
On the whole, the room was kept immaculately clean by the housekeeping staff, who did an excellent job each morning.
However, the room itself showed signs of wear. There were a fair few marks and scratches on the furniture, and the blackout blind was missing, which I was told could not be replaced during my stay. This resulted in the room being very light in the mornings.
Service and Staff: My Biggest Grievance
My biggest complaint by far relates to the reception staff. The team was consistently and surprisingly unfriendly. I was frequently met with staff keeping their heads down, and I never once received a "hello" or "good morning" when passing the lobby area. They were also very stern and serious, and seemed generally unwilling to answer questions. The lack of basic warmth and hospitality was genuinely surprising for a Hilton.
Furthermore, I felt the hotel's policy on late check-out was cheeky. When I enquired, I was quoted approximately $100 for 1 pm and $200 for 4 pm. After spending a considerable amount of money at the hotel, I felt a complimentary couple of extra hours could have been offered as a gesture of goodwill.
Mandatory Charges and Fees
It is essential for prospective guests to be aware of the hidden charges at this hotel.
A mandatory service charge of $35 is applied per day of your stay.
This fee is exchanged for a $35 credit to use at the on-site café or restaurant.
While the café staff were friendly and helpful, the products are very expensive. You must spend the credit each day, as it does not roll over and will be lost.
A deposit was also charged at check-in, the amount is dependent on the length of your stay. I can confirm this was refunded shortly after checking out.
The Millennium Hilton New York One UN Plaza is a hotel with a great location and excellent views, especially if you opt for the upgrade. While the housekeeping was excellent, the experience was significantly let down by the unwelcoming reception staff and the requirement to pay mandatory daily service fees.
