The walk up the hill from main street to this hotel is a workout for anyone. Whenever you book at Lake Placid it is good idea to find out what sport events are going on. You may end up being surrounded by families, which can be bad or good. I don't like the rooms on the pool. Lots of renovations were going on this weekend- new management. They no longer have complimentary tea, coffee and hot water all day - disappointing change.
Views are beautiful. Parking plentiful.
Pool area very nice.
Breakfast buffet - very nice. $17/person.

This was our first time in Lake Placid and the location of the hotel was amazing. The rooms need to be updated. The draft from the sliding glass door was awful. The room was hard to keep warm. We were on the first floor and the room above us kept slamming the sliding door all hours of the night and the shower was dripping all night long. ( You could hear it). I am not sure if I will ever stay at this hotel again. We chose this hotel because it was close to town and the hockey rink where our friend's kid was playing this weekend. The inside of the hotel near the lobby was decorated beautifully still with Christmas lights and decorations ( I love Christmas). I truly enjoyed sitting in front of the fireplace and reading a nice book and doing some work stuff.
I like going to Lake Placid every year for my birthday. I had reservations for a really nice room, which I had to change to the following weekend due to unforeseen circumstances. I called and spoke to Laura (or Lorrie, I can't recall) in the "reservation dept". I explained that I had called the day earlier but the reservation staff only works until 3. I greeted her and asked her how her day was going before requesting to move my 2 night reservation to the following weekend. I could tell she was having a rough day... We're human, I get it. She told me that the reservation would be about $140/night just to switch weekends! Already spending a good chunk of change for a premium room, I couldn't justify the additional cost for the same room 7 days later. I asked if she could accommodate me for the same price (it maybe a little less than $140. She was unwilling to even talk about it. She rushed me into cancelling my current reservation saying "she didn't want me to take up a room on a busy weekend". She was rude, cranky, and not who I would want speaking with customers if I ran a business. I hope Laura (or Lorrie) sees this and I hope her days gets better. Kindness is contagious! I love the rooms at the Crowne, but a premium experience doesn't stop at an expensive room. I expect better.

We stayed here before but only one night, this time we stayed 4 nights. Pool was cold, room service horrible, I left a tip but it was inadequate at best. Breakfast was a disaster, all the servers overwhelmed and no one has time to bring you coffee. Honestly, next time I'm staying somewhere else.
