I am giving this hotel a 1 star because my family and I were not satisfied with their services. I don't even know where to begin, our room that we stayed in was dirty, they had a dirty contact lens on the floor in the bathroom. Housekeeping never clean the room. She was lazy. There's a time she didn't even make our beds. The sheet look like they were not washed. Made my body itchy. The room we stayed in was so small and cramped. We couldn't even take clothes out of our luggage's.
Their microwave didn't work their little coffee machine didn't work. The carpet was not clean. Looked like no one ever vacuum that carpet. Do not believe the hype of these catfishing pictures they put on here. It's a scam and fraud those pictures.
The hotel sucks really bad. Mind you, I came to this hotel in the past and had an amazing service the first time. That's why I decided to come back again. This time around it was horrendous. The only good thing about this hotel is the location. It's downtown Brooklyn and it's near the Barclays center.
There's lots of shopping malls and places to eat. Other than that the hotel is bad. I should've taken the pictures I wanted to take as proof. I kept it ethical and not take pics but I will not be mute on mine and my family's bad experience at this hotel. It didn't ruin our beautiful NYC vacation it's just that next time we will stay somewhere else. We had to ask for toilet papers, towels and other basic essentials that a hotel is supposed to provide. And when we were leaving the morning of they slid the check out paper underneath our hotel bedroom door ( talk about unprofessional) never ever ever again!!!!
If you really want to stay here for the location and convenience, it's not the end of the world. That being said, my stay here was less than ideal for sure.
On my second night here, (so the room staff had come to clean up and replace things) I found that the staff had turned on my AC to absolute max during winter. Now, we used the AC controller to turn it to 72° F but it kept blowing. Thought maybe it was just taking awhile, but it turns out the actual controls for the AC is inside the vent where the air blows out of. And yes, the room thermostat doesn't work, the AC unit controller apparently is a placebo.
The other thing is that they set an alarm on my rooms alarm clock for 5:30am exactly. And I have no idea why they did that, I know for a fact I didnt set any alarms on that clock. So I was woken up by that.
The little reading light thing is broken and pops out on its own (it's one of those lights that turn on when it pops out) and there's no way to push it in completely cause it's broken. So it shines all night.
And finally, on check out day, I was surprised to find room staff who knocked on my door in a hurry to say if I had checked out. A whole 2 hours before I had to check out. Though they did apologize when I showed my booking check out time.
That isn't even to add smaller details, like how room staff left red stains in the bathroom, or that the seal for the shower door is broken so it doesn't close properly and is very loose, causing water to spill out.
Overall, this place is fine if you're looking for a stay cause of location. Just be aware that the room has problems, staff aren't great, and ac probably is dead.

Worst experience I've ever had at a hotel. We unserstand city streets are difficult but why claim to have valet if you can't park or stop your car anywhere but in the middle of a single lane street which then blocks ALL of traffic. Emergency vehicles or otherwise. No help with the bags while we were rushing to unload the car as 12+ vehicles and a city bus are behind us honking. Then we get inside and the lobby is nice enough. Hope are high that we've experienced the worst of it. Wrong. Our room is boiling when we get up to it. We turn the a/c to 67 and after 30 minutes it starts to get cool. We had our for the evening and leave the a/c on at 69. When we arive back around 1130pm the room is an oven. Its late December in the north east and our rooms personal a/c was set to 69. After turning the system off then turning it back on it showed the temp at 77. Confirmed the heat was not selected, the a/c was, fan was on and we tried all functions/options. I went down to the lobby and brought this up the front desk. No available rooms and maintenance wouldn't arrive until after our check out. We spent the next hour in the lobby seating area simply trying to cool down and determine what to do. We wound up checking out in the middle of the night because the 4 of us were drenched in sweat as the room only continued to get warmer. We decided it was better to drive 3 - 3.5 hours home, sleep deprived, in the early morning than stay at this hotel. Story over? Of course not. I follow the instructions to recover our vehicle. Clicked the link on the text message sent to us at check on from valet a half hour before we needed the vehicle. Well 1 hour and 26 minutes later we finally get our car. But we couldn't wait inside seated at the lobby because they don't tell you if your car is next or give you a time frame. So at 4am we are standing in the cold and windy city streets of NYC waiting for a car we requested 1.5 hours ago. Ultimately delaying us getting home even more. This is the worst experience I've ever had and there was zero sympathy from the staff and no indication of them trying to waive the valet fee of $45 or reimburse part of our stay. We will not book under the holiday inn or any of their affiliated establishments again.

Have been an IHG member since 2018. A member of my party had a medical emergency the day before our reservation. The deadline for canceling was a day before that at 6:00PM. I requested that the cancellation penalty be waived given the circumstances and my IHG membership. I spent hours being rerouted through steps and denied at every turn. The most upsetting part of this was that it became evident that there was no intention of granting the exception. Yet at every turn I was greeted with a "Thank you for your loyalty and for being a member". I checked the availability of rooms for the day we were scheduled to stay and there were a number of rooms available so there here was no loss of revenue if the request was granted.
There is something wrong with a company that does business this way and based on the reviews I have read since our this incident I can see it shows up in a number of ways. When a hotel, or any business, is not customer centered, when it does not value customer loyalty but says it is grateful for it, it is not a business i will support and I caution to to do so.
I’m giving this hotel 2 stars based on the overall experience during our stay at the Holiday Inn Downtown Brooklyn. If I hadn't had some help this would be a 1 star review.
There were several issues that made the stay disappointing. The pool was not open during the day, and while the pool hours are listed on the website, they don’t make much sense and result in the pool being crowded when it is open. When we attempted to use the hot tub during posted open hours, it was closed (the lifeguard said it was cold??) The room and lobby were dusty, the room did not appear to be vacuumed, and the internet was very slow. There was no microwave in the room and we were told we would have to request one if we wanted one. Breakfast, which we paid for, is not worth the cost, with limits on juice and very little value overall. The cooling function in the room was turned on, and combined with poor insulation, the room was uncomfortably cold on our first day. We were also promised a high-floor room but were placed on the third floor instead, where we could clearly hear the subway underneath the hotel.
The only reason this is not a 1-star review is because the manager, Masani, was very courteous and quick to respond. She fixed our reservation and provided a discount, which we genuinely appreciated.
Without her assistance, this stay would have been even more frustrating. Unfortunately, the number of issues made it hard to enjoy the hotel overall. The proximity to subway travel was good but that was about the only thing we really liked.
