The Holiday Inn Express by the Bronx Zoo is a solid, budget friendly option. The rooms are on the smaller side, but they’re clean and have everything you need. The staff is friendly and helpful, which makes the stay comfortable. The main downside is that it’s pretty far from the Manhattan action, so plan for longer travel if you want to hit the city. Overall, a good choice if you’re looking to save a bit without sacrificing basics.

The hotel is reaaally far away from the subway. If you’re planning to move around the city this is definitely not your place. It’s a scary place by night, it’s better to get to the hotel before it gets dark.
Nothing to say about the staff. The front desk lady told us that breakfast was till 10am….but it was always taken away at 9.40. There where no name tags, uniforms or any kind of way to know which people inside the building were employees or guests
We found someone else’s undies between the mattress and the wall right back the bed.
I stayed at this hotel for five days, and the experience was extremely disappointing. There was no proper housekeeping during my entire stay. I went to the front desk several times to request cleaning, and each time I was told it would be done “the next day.” In reality, they only delivered towels sometimes. The promised cleaning, including a so-called “deep cleaning,” never happened.
Trash was sometimes removed, but the room itself was never properly cleaned, and the bed sheets were not changed during the full five days. This is unacceptable from a hygiene standpoint. The front desk staff showed little to no concern despite repeated complaints.
The air conditioning was also a serious issue. The air in the room did not feel fresh, and the AC made me cough throughout my entire stay. The air quality was very uncomfortable.
I booked a suite with a kitchen, but it was completely useless. There were no plates, no glasses, no utensils—not even a single glass. The only thing provided was a few small plastic water bottles. I do not understand the purpose of offering a kitchen without even the most basic items.
Breakfast was very low quality and extremely repetitive, with the same limited options every day. This hotel fails to meet the basic standards of cleanliness, service, and guest care.
I would never recommend this hotel. Even if it were free, I would never return.

We had previously inquired by email, but unfortunately received no response, about whether we could check in earlier because of our flight. We arrived at 8:00 a.m. and asked if we could check in early for an extra charge. At least 6 or 7 people checked out and left the hotel that morning, and we witnessed this because we waited for three hours until almost noon. We were repeatedly told that early check-in was not possible. At every other hotel, including other Holiday Inn hotels, it had always been possible to check in early for an extra fee. We were sitting in the lobby, very, very tired, and simply received no assistance.Very poor service.

★☆☆☆☆ - Management Failed to Address Serious Issues
I found the rooms to be in good condition. However, the service was completely inadequate and my stay was deeply disappointing.
I received a noise complaint for playing music from my portable speaker during the middle of the day, which I felt was unreasonable. More importantly, I made several complaints about cigarette smoke oozing into my room through the bathroom vent at night. The management did absolutely nothing to stop it.
I had to keep my bathroom door shut to try to contain the fumes. When I asked for a different room, I was told none were available. The night shift manager did provide an air sanitizer after I requested it, but it barely helped. For two nights, I was left in an uncomfortable room with no action taken against the smoking guest.
As a person living with a disability, secondhand smoke directly worsens my health, making this situation more than just an inconvenience. When I asked for a partial refund due to this experience, I was refused.
Therefore, I believe my 1-star rating is factual and appropriate. I will be filing a formal complaint. Unless you don't mind your bathroom smelling like a smokehouse and management ignoring your concerns, I advise you to look elsewhere.
