Booked 5 nights to celebrate the new year and visit Mt. Rose for snowboarding with a 5 years old daughter. I was aware of their on-going renovation and notice for fitness center being closed as well, but finding out that pool was also closed (and not disclosed anywhere) was a big set back for the little one.
We faced an issue as soon as we open the door to our one-bedroom room. The door was literally coming off from the frame with loose hinges so it was very hard to open or close it. I went down to see if they have another room available but was told there isn't one available for the night and they will see if they can fix the door or switch us to a different room tomorrow. Also the dining table that's shown on the picture wasn't in the room with their new furnitures and was wondering where we can sit together for a meal.
I wanted to take a shower in late evening and realized hot water wasn't coming out despite leaving the water on for couple of minutes. Called the front desk and they acknowledged that they have been having issue with hot water for the rooms located at the end of the property and calmly suggested that I leave the hot water on for 10 minutes. I didn't want to wait that long so I decided to take a shower the next morning but water stayed lurk warm to a point to make me feel cold. It wasn't at a temperature where my 5 years old daughter can comfortably take a shower.
The breakfast was absolutely garbage. We went down around 8:30 in the morning and they were literally out of half of the items. No fruits, couple of sliced bread left, one raison bagel left, no cream cheese, no Nutella and the list is probably bigger if I know what they have normally have available.
I asked if they have a plain bagel and was told that it would take 30 minutes to thaw it. Obviously they don't try to keep their bread fresh and just throw them in freezer. For hot items, they had sausage, egg (from liquid product) and hash totes. The sausage and egg were burnt badly and being served. The hash totes were way undercooked and being crushed everywhere.
Then I hear another guest complaining about expired yogurt dated 2 days back, which my daughter had couple of spoons already. I was then questioning whether the other items that doesn't have expiration date, which will be almost all of them in the serving area, are health hazards. The breakfast hour was supposed to be until 9:30 but they turned off the light to the area right at 9.
We prepared a long vacation with SUV and roof rack full of luggages which were all moved to the room already and organized for the rest of the stay. But I couldn't imagine our family having a year end and new year stay at such an awful place so we went over to Home2 Suites nearby and spent the rest of vacation, minus one day ruined for Homewood selling a room that obviously needs work done at a property that is broken and not observing health regulations.
Stay away from this place at least until their renovation is done. After seeing the mindset of how they are operating during the time of renovation, I will never stay at Homewood Reno ever. It is my first time staying at Homewood Suites so my future stay at any Homewood Suites will take a big courage on my end.
I booked the stay using my points to take advantage of 5th night free, and yet to receive my points back to my account despite the worker at the front desk telling me that the points should appear in my account after 1 or 2 hours after the checkout. A call to the property next day had a different information saying that it will take at least a week or two. I will now have to call Hilton and waste more time trying to protect my points that hasn't come in despite multiple asking to employees at Homewood Suites at Reno.

I had a very bad experience at Homewood Suites by Hilton Reno.
The breakfast was terrible—cold and tasteless. The room heater did not work, and the service was poor. Trash was left in front of my room since the morning, and the walkway smelled bad all day. Overall, the hotel felt neglected and unhygienic.
I do not recommend this hotel to anyone. If you’re planning to stay in this area, you would honestly be better off choosing a very cheap motel, because the experience here does not match the price or the Hilton name.
This is especially disappointing because I previously stayed at Homewood Suites by Hilton, which was one of the best hotel experiences of my life—excellent breakfast, great service, and very clean facilities. The difference is night and day.
Unfortunately, this Reno location is one of the worst hotel stays I’ve ever had, and I will never stay here again. I recommended this hotel to five families to spend New Year’s with me, hoping we would all have a great experience. None of them were happy, and it was very embarrassing for me because they trusted my recommendation. Instead of enjoying the holiday, the experience completely ruined the trip for me and my family and friends

Upon arrival, the overwhelming smell of new paint was way to much. They didn't mention the pool was closed, and we wanted to get our little one down for a nap so forgot to ask. We always book an indoor pool so he can have a little fun. The construction and paint smell was too much. No nap. We had to keep our windows open, thank goodness we were on the second floor, the entire stay, in December. The bathroom had standing water in the tub when my husband went to use the bathroom. The dishes in the drawer were visibly dirty. While we always wash before use, that's just gross. When we left for dinner, the front desk was vacant, and we were in a hurry with a toddler, so we just left. When we returned, a few hours later, same. The hallways had piles of towels that were there for the day, all night until the morning along with other assorted trash in the hallways. Construction noise started before 8am. Breakfast was bagels, mini muffins, generic cereal, coffee and yogurt. When we left, I tried to express my frustration with the Expedia not being aware of the Construction. I said I would have booked elsewhere. The older man at the counter said that Expedia was informed 3 months ago and they chose not to let customers know. Little suspicious that he knew that off the top of his head. He said I should let Expedia know and there was NOTHING he could do. I tried to let him know the other issues like the trash and things, but he just said there was nothing he could do. I tried to explain with a toddler that certain things are important, like the pool and etc. He just said I was getting angry, when I was just trying to tell him my concerns. I just said I would write reviews, contact management, and contact Expedia. I wasn't asking for anything but to be heard. Very disappointed and will not be back.

We love Homewood Suites and stay at various ones if available in our travels. This location isn't bad, but far enough away from food dining options meaning a car ride is necessary as opposed to a walk. Our room was amazing as usual, but we did have a heard of buffalo staying in the room above us. Breakfast was standard fare. I just wish all hotels had a alternative option to pork-based meats. Not everyone eats pork now days. Just an idea 💡. Eggs were scorched this particular morning, and yet slightly watery. We were on a 2 week road trip and had many hotel breakfasts. This particular one was slightly below average for the comments made above.
