DONT STAY HERE! RUDE AND JUDGEMENTAL STAFF. DIRTY. It's a dingy spot. Lots of crime happening around the hotel which calls for them to have beefed up and rude security walking around at all times with their chests sticking out. Not very welcoming at all. The elevators are always broken or take 15 mins to get to you at 2am on a Tuesday. Like there's no need for it to take that long, fix your elevators. Or they just dont work at all. I was left in the females bathroom after the elevator took so long, I couldnt wait, WITH NO TOILET PAPER. I cried after having to call the front desk to brijg me toilet paper while I sat on the toilet. The food is hit or miss. The service is absolutely trash. Almost the entire staff was rude at one point to me. The females especially, when you dress in a certain way and look a certain way, they scowl at you, I swear. I tried to get them to smile to no avail, they seemed miserable. I had to stay there because I was a victim of DV and they were nice at first lol Once you stay long enough, like 2 weeks, you see the issues. The only nice ones, were the ones who cleaned the rooms. 2 of them, maybe a waitress or two. The front desk manager was a client of mine and she cancelled after judging me for staying a month, before upping the pricing so high there was no way I could have afforded it. She breached our contract and I never went after her for doing so, for no reason, other than judgements on my personal life. And told me the day before I was to purchase another week that they had taken my room, even if I wanted to extend it again. I was quiet and polite, and I tipped. Disgusting practices, price gouging for bridal season, yet forgetting the people who need housing in their city. Women who are stuck in dv situations and cant even afford a week at a 2 star hotel?! If you're paying, you should be treated the same as anyone else. Like, this hotel rivaled THE MUIR and The Marriot pricing at that point?!?!? Like what? This hotel is a 2 star hotel that seems like a 3 star until you stay there longer than a couple nights. They treat you like trash once they make their judgements. I suffer from chronic pain as well, so when I had their security guard come outside while I was smoking and harrass me? Asking me if I had a ride coming in such a smug slimy way, they knew I stayed there. And then when I had asked if the elevator was broken one night, the same one got right rude with me too. In front of the desk staff too. I tried to report them? It goes right to a full mail box, Shadow Security. Yeah, shady. Im appalled by the treatment I experienced at this hotel. At least there were no bedbugs, but would not surprise me. I also took bridal clients at this hotel for trials and only had to travel upstairs to do makeup for another wedding. The front desk manager gave me a discount for a couple weeks and then thought I had enough charity and I had to go to a homeless shelter for another 2 weeks until I got back into my home. You never know what someone is going through, treat people kind. Especially when they have done nothing wrong to you. Gross behavior from this ENTIRE HOTEL. Key cards always messed up. Breakfast stops at 10am and if you go there at 9? It's basically over anyways. If you ask them to fill up the plates at 9am or after, they say no, its too late. The pool is so small and boring. No music. The cleaning was mediocre, and I feel bad saying that because they were the only kind ones. The man who served me at the bar, was nice as well, but they're working for tips, so that's to be expected. I cant believe I had to deal with DV, just getting free from my abuser and having to deal with large men staring me down, glaring and harassing me other times. It was not a good atmosphere at all. It's sad that I've read the judgmental, rude and miserable staff, is a common problem. This hotel doesnt know what customer service is. Rotten!

I am COMPLETELY OVERWHELMED by the EXCEPTIONALLY OUTSTANDING HIGH QUALITY OF SERVICE offered at this Best Western Hotel situated at 250 St Margaret's Bay Road in Halifax. Their is unquestionably a very SPECIAL CULTURE OF EXCELLENCE at every level (staff, service, food ...) 1- MESSAGE to the EXECUTIVE ADMINISTRATIVE HIERARCHY of the CANADIAN BOARD of DIRECTORS of the Best Western Plus Hotels : All new recruits employees at every level should get their mandatory training at this specific Best Western Plus situated at 250 St-Marguerite's Bay Road in Halifax. 2- MESSAGE To the PEOPLE COMING INTO HALIFAX for whatever reasons (... touristic, business, cultural & sporting events, hospital patients waiting for official hospital admission ...) DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT GOING ANYWHERE ELSE during your stay. The food and service at their restaurant is unquestionably a GENUINE GEM of the CULINARY ART. Their daily prices for their rooms are among the best in this highly competitive hotel buisness. They have a beautiful pool for relaxation and family fun ... 3- TO THE RESIDENTS of HALIFAX : REDISCOVER FINE DINING in your city at their restaurant "Lakeside Bar & Grill" with a MAGNIFICENT & BEAUTIFUL VIEW of the water front and a VERY SPECIAL ATMOSPHERE of FINE DINING. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND this place of buisness without any hesitations.

Room was clean & comfortable, beds very nice, room temperature easy to control and quiet, great water pressure and lots of towels. Parking was close and easy, staff were friendly...food at the restaurant was not that great..breakfast not too bad but supper wasn't the best. Fish n chips...good portion size, batter was thin and crispy but the haddock was mushy and somewhat tasteless. The Seafood chowder...great biscuits, good portion size in a deep bowl...but very little seafood of any kind in it. Very disappointing :(

This review is mainly for pet owners who know how difficult it can be to find a hotel that is truly pet friendly. If you have ever struggled with that, this is definitely the right place. I usually travel with my Yorkie, and it is often frustrating to find hotels that claim to be pet friendly but come with many restrictions. In my case, I had a reservation at another hotel that refused to accept my dog because they required him to be kept in a crate I did not have, as I use one that is appropriate for his size and comfort. I called Best Western Chocolate Lake the very same day, and they were able to accommodate me immediately and give me a room. I have stayed here around four times now, and every experience has been excellent. My furry companion has space to walk and relax, the surroundings are comfortable, and the staff is incredibly kind and respectful toward pets. One thing I truly appreciate is how thoughtful the team is when it comes to housekeeping. They always make sure to check whether your pet is in the room before cleaning, which helps avoid unnecessary stress for your animal. That level of care really makes a difference. I can feel at ease leaving my dog when I need to step out, knowing he is in a safe and welcoming environment. If you are looking for a place where you can be comfortable, enjoy a peaceful stay, be treated by a genuinely friendly staff, and most importantly, feel confident that your pet is truly welcome, this is absolutely the place to stay.
