- DADavid ArthurOct 14, 20254.0We stay 2 – 3 times per year for 4 – 5 days each stay when visiting family in Los Alamos. The staff is generally easy to find and friendly. Some staff have been at this hotel for years. Special commendation to the woman who staffs the breakfast buffet Monday to Friday and stays on top of keeping the buffet stocked. The breakfast buffet food is pretty good (I’m a fan of the warm cinnamon rolls). Everything is clean, and the furniture and finishes from the remodel 3 or 4 years ago are holding up well. But the hotel does not do daily housekeeping. Guests must request mid-stay housekeeping. And even when requested, it gets done on that day only about 70% of the time due to a lack of staffing. It is disappointing to return to the hotel after our day’s activities, anticipating a tidied room with clean towels and empty trash cans only to find the room untouched by housekeeping. Los Alamos is a weird town, and the labor market is even weirder, especially for jobs like food service and housekeeping. So I understand there is difficulty getting and keeping such staff. I also understand that some of the long-term guests do not want housekeeping services. But, we do, and the lack of housekeeping is disappointing for this category of hotel.
