- RRRod RideoutMar 2, 20261.0Beware to those who book to stay at this hotel with a non refundable booking! I paid over $300 for two rooms for February 22, 2026 through Booking.com. The Avalon Peninsula experienced blizzard conditions that day and the RCMP instructed the public to stay off the road. We only live an hour outside of St. John’s and we chose to obey the instructions of the RCMP. We contracted the Holiday Inn Express and I spoke to the manager to tell him that we would not risk our lives and to cancel our reservations. We naturally made the assumption that the hotel would simply rebook us. We didn’t expect nor ask for a refund. Jon Hodder, the Director of Finance and Customer Relations, took days to get back to us and made it crystal clear that he would not rebook us. If you have a non refundable booking and something arises, do not expect Jon Hodder to accommodate you.
