From the moment I arrived, the experience was frustrating. There was a short, stocky front-desk staff member who was more interested in chatting on his phone than doing his job. When I tried to check in, he acted visibly annoyed, as if I were interrupting him.
The first room was completely unacceptable. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and sagged badly in the middle. The hotel is directly beside a freeway, and there is clearly no proper window insulation. Sleeping there felt like sleeping on the shoulder of the highway. I could hear trucks braking, cars honking, and traffic noise all night long without any break. It was impossible to rest.
To make it even worse, the heater turned on every few minutes and was louder than the freeway itself. Between the constant traffic noise and the noisy heater, getting proper sleep was impossible.
After two nights of this, I spoke with a woman at the front desk who finally moved me to another room, which was slightly better—but by then the damage was already done.
At checkout, I asked the same front-desk employee (once again glued to his phone) if I could leave my car parked for two nights while I was in New York. He showed zero interest in helping and made no effort to accommodate a simple request.
This hotel’s location next to a freeway, poor sound insulation, uncomfortable rooms, and unprofessional front-desk service made this a terrible stay. I’m posting this review wherever I can so future guests know exactly what to expect before booking.
Hotel was clean and quiet.
General maintenance was lacking (missing trim in the bathroom, torn screen in the window, etc.). Very basic repairs that should be easily taken care of, but were not. If they can’t keep up repair on the small things, are the big things being maintained?
Needed enough towels to accommodate our family and was instead told we needed to preform chores to earn more clean towels. Very abrasive reaction to asking for a very common hotel amenity.
Did not feel like a valued guest, more like a burden to the staff.
Very basic. Very unwelcoming.
Was here for a work stay. This place is kept very clean and their housekeeping does a really thorough cleaning. They don't even like the trash to be left outside of the door, but to be put into a trash bin down the hall. The convenience store is decent and offers free regular and decaf coffee, but the other items are pretty expensive. There are microwaveable dinners and other food, Coke products, juices, half gallon milk, eggs, and other things for sell.
The hotel is generally quiet and if maintenance is needed they send someone right away...during business hours from what I know.
The GM Victoria seems to be very down to earth, accommodating and eager to have extended stay workers, in addition to, others who just need a nice place to stay.
From the moment I walked in, I was met with a surprisingly fresh and pleasant smell. At first, I thought someone was wearing a nice perfume, but it was actually the hotel itself smelling great.
The front desk lady was warm and welcoming. I do not recall the young lady’s name, but she was extremely helpful and added me to my husband’s corporate reservation with no issues once I provided ID. Some hotels make this a hassle, so her professionalism was appreciated.
As my husband pushed the loading cart inside and a few items fell off because the cart is narrow versus wide, the General Manager Victoria immediately stepped in to help us carry things to the room. That kind of humility and hands-on leadership is rare and truly stood out.
We stayed in a Studio room, which was the only option available for our two week stay. The room was bright, very clean, and comfortable. There was a light and unusual smell at first from the cleaning products, but it was not overpowering and it disappeared once we used our own room spray. The bathroom is a good size, the desk is convenient, and even though it is a queen bed, it is very comfortable.
The only downside is the limited kitchen storage. Outside of the dish cabinet and a couple of smaller overhead spaces, there is not much room for groceries or extra items. We used a large storage tote for our overflow, which worked fine. I usually disinfect hotel rooms myself, but honestly, if I did not have my supplies, I would have felt comfortable with the level of cleanliness from Housekeeping.
Amenities include three washers and three dryers, a nice fitness room with weights, and a small convenience store. Prices are higher than a typical grocery store or gas station, which is expected for hotel convenience items. You also self-checkout using the in-store device.
One great bonus is the Borrow Program. You can check out items such as a slow cooker, waffle maker, board games, books, and more.
Overall, Candlewood Suites in Secaucus, NJ feels like a hidden gem. It is clean, welcoming, and a good place to stay for extended periods. I would return.

This hotel was a nice and clean hotel but they don’t provide water bottles you have buy some downstairs in snack bar area and very spacious fridge includes stove top and dish washer with kitchen pots/ pans and utensils. They also have a cabinet downstairs with board games and kitchen necessities you can borrow 100 % recommend. They provide name branded soap in bathroom and dish soap for dishes ! Location isn’t the best barely anything around you gotta drive 5-10 minutes to reach stores or food places ! They hold a 250$ security to let you know they do give it back at end of stay !
