I'll get straight to the point, I feel this specific Hilton Hotel is incorrectly named as one of the brands in the Hilton chain of hotels, period. My husband and I are Gold Members but will be Diamond in a week. We specificly book Homewood Suites for extended stays with our 2 dogs, 1 year old, and having 2 vehicles because we appreciate the consistancy of amenities that Homewood Suites offer. This specific location does not reflect the same amenities a standard Homewood Suites offers but it does reflect amenities you would expect from another Hilton brand. I would happily give this hotet 5 stars if it wasn't for the fact my family and I booked this location for an extended stay. I listed my reasons below starting out with why I personally feel this way.
We specificly book Homewood Suites when we need extended stays, anywhere from 2 months to 6 since they offer free to very little charge for parking, full kitchens, breakfast, a flat rate for our fur babies, and easy access to dog relief areas with poo bags provided.
Positive for this location: This location is perfect if you're wanting to walk around Portsmouth and experience downtown. The hotel looks and even smells like it's basically brand new. Zero complaints about the cleanliness or lack of common area. The staff here, including valet, amazing! Everything is exactly what you would expect from a Hilton property. Valet is $45 a night. If you're driving a lot throughout the day back and forth from the hotel, this in my opinion, is 100% worth it. You don't have to deal with driving around looking for and paying for parking and making a hike back. If you do not have dogs, zero issues.
Negative (And why I'm specificly saying it should not be labeled as a Homewood Suites): They only offer valet at $45 a night, every single night you stay there. They give you the options of finding parking on the street for free but only during specific times or offer the parking garage behind the building (not owned by Hilton) which is hit or miss and again you have to pay by the time spent. This location claims to be dog friendly. Other than being able to walk your dog around inside and up to your room, this sadly, is VERY inaccurate. There are no designated dog relief areas right outside or poo trash cans or trash bags provided. We were specifically told by the staff that the area by the railroad tracks, grave yard, or the park 4 blocks behind the building are dod friendly. We checked in during the evening. There is zero lighting next to the railroad tracks and zero at the cemetery. Being a small woman with a baby having to walk 2 dogs separately, this to me feels very unsafe and sketchy. I attached pictures to this review I took the next morning along with my one and only window veiw from my "suite". The room we booked as a full kitchen suite was smaller than a regular size hotel room you would expect from lower rated class hotel brands. As a woman who enjoys putting makeup on every day, unfortunately the lighting in entire "suite" was low, the bathroom mirror worse. The water pressure, regardless what sink or shower, unfortunately, terrible. I'm sure not everyone has the same view as I had but my son naps around noon. The building shook when the train outside our window moved and the sounds outside were so loud, they woke my 1yr old up multiple times.
TBH, we would have never stayed here after initially checking in bc of our circumstances. If you're not requiring the same needs as we do then I would 100% recommend this hotel!
