My family had 3 rooms rented at the Roosevelt Grand this weekend. We planned on letting kids swim and having pizza and cupcakes for a birthday. We put up one Happy Birthday Banner on the pool fence. No extravagant decorations. There was no one else in the pool area at all. The front desk told us no parties and then put up a sign that stated ‘no parties in the pool area’. We have had birthday get togethers here before. She told us we could eat outside the pool fence but needed to take down our banner. So we did. Then she came back and said we were getting charged $500 to have a party per her manager as it was a new policy. We were just visiting and kids were swimming- we were not being obnoxious-it was 4pm. Had we not put up one birthday banner they wouldn’t have even known it was a party. We asked to talk to the manager—who then called my husband on his cell phone. He had a Seattle number. We just had pizza delivered and he said you better not eat or you’ll be charged $1000 as that’s the new pool party rate. Or he told us we could rent the ballroom for $1000 if we wanted to eat pizza. We asked him to work with us and were willing to pay a reasonable fee of $100-200 to use the 3 tables and swim ( again we didn’t have the pool area blocked off and were not deterring people from swimming). He said he could compromise at $800. So we packed up our stuff and had to eat pizza in the hotel rooms. We always recommended this hotel to friends, families and coworkers and will no longer be doing so. Very upset with how this whole situation was handled :(

I absolutely loved this place. Big hotel with all kinds of cozy rustic sitting areas. Very nice bar/restaurant area with pool tables. My daughter and I had fun playing pool. Loved the full breakfast and the eating area was beautiful like a nice restaurant with different little rooms and levels for privacy and pretty chandeliers. Definitely not like a lot of hotels that have just one room with harsh florescent lighting and hard tables and chairs to sit on. Was cozy and relaxing with booths and regular tables. I ran into a couple kitchen staff who were cleaning up and very nice pleasant folks. Our room was wonderful, very large and beds very comfy. We didn't need room service so not sure about how housekeeping is. I will probably never be in North Dakota again by if I am I would definitely stay here again.

The free continental breakfast was one of the few highlights of our stay -- it offered a good variety of quality options, and the dining area was quiet and comfortable. Unfortunately, the positives ended there. The front desk staff was very unfriendly and acted as though checking in or asking for anything was a major inconvenience. There was a noticeable lack of hospitality -- the kind of cold, dismissive attitude that makes guests feel like they're a bother rather than welcome. The rooms and commons areas were also in poor condition. The carpets were ripped, duct taped in several areas, and had visible bumps where they clearly needed to be restretched. Overall, the property felt worn down and not well cared for. To make matters worse, there was a strong smell in our room that caused both of us to develop headaches, leading us to suspect possible mold issues. Because of this and the other issues, we ultimately checked out a night early -- something we have never done while traveling. In summary, while the breakfast was nice, the lack of professionalism at the front desk, the poor maintenance throughout the property, and concerns about the room quality made for a disappointing experience. With better upkeep and staff training, this hotel could improve significantly, but as of now, I wouldn't choose to stay here again.

This place was awful!!! The girls at the front desk were rude, I mentioned that I was an aarp member and they only gave me that discount for 1 night of my two nights, told them my refrigerator wasn’t working and totally ignored that, I should get some sort of discount for a non working frig.. still charged me full price.. $282.. the rooms smell like stale cig smoke and the lighting is dark and gloomy, time for an update on that place!! Next time for any hockey tourneys in Dickinson, my group won’t be staying there again!!! Anita Radermacher

The hotel is in desperate need of an update. We started in one room; however, it had so many stains on the worn-out carpet and so many unidentified smells that we asked to be moved to a new room. The new room had only a couple of huge stains on the carpet, and the curtain valance was at least attached, unlike the first room. The smell of mold in 1st room 209 was concerning. The fridge made 2 strange noises all day and night, and the hallways reeked of marijuana, so the non-smoking room still smelled of smoke. The door hinges on the neighbor's room squeaked loudly every time they went through it. Between the fridge and the neighboring door, it was a sleepless night. The shower curtain rod was precariously hung on the wall and had holes in it. There are no fans in any of the bathrooms. The window screen had a hole to let bugs in, although it didn't really matter because the windows were so filthy that you couldn't see out of them anyhow. The front staff were extremely unhelpful and untrained. The rooms were dark with worn-out carpets, and the hallway carpets were worn and rippled with lots of duct tape for transition pieces. We used to stay at this hotel 15 years ago, and it was clean and comfortable, not 5-star but a solid 4.0. We would struggle to give it a 1.0 as it stands today. It has great bones, but a complete makeover is warranted. Dont be fooled by the pictures on website . Do more research I feel sad for DSU having showcase events at this place . It was a Grand place at one time . What happened? I totally expect a bot reply expressing their concern. Save it.
