We’re Diamond Members with Hilton and come to ILM once a quarter or so just to get away, and this is our first visit to this property. The location is absolutely fabulous and the staff is very nice, but we’re currently in our third room in less than 24 hours due to a malfunctioning lock, no AC or ventilation, and plumbing issues. In fairness, the front desk and maintenance staffs are desperately trying to fix the issues sitewide, but this building is older and needs a COMPLETE Hilton overhaul and much better oversight.
We were moved from 415 (malfunctioning lock) to 416 at check-in, when we dropped our bags and went to dinner and a nearby lounge with live music. When we came back around 10:30 PM, 416 had no AC or ventilation (see video) but the hotel was sold out with a collegiate beach volleyball tourney, so we stayed put. At 12:30AM, Lili was nice and gave us the fan they had behind the front desk. This morning, they moved us to 418 (with “several rooms closed due to maintenance issues,” per the front desk). Digital keys are not functional throughout the property right now, and the sign at check-in says “Hilton will be here next week to fix the problem.” There are multiple signs in any room of use and wear. The Market is very dark and there is a limited adult beverage selection (no wine, 1 beer and 1 seltzer… sad in a town with amazing craft breweries).
In downtown, there are so many cultural attractions, fabulous shops and restaurants, and great specialty bars/lounges and live music, all within a walkable 3-block radius to the waterfront (try Floriana’s, The Basics, WTF, Blind Elephant speakeasy, the DoughHouse, Fat Tony’s, Copper Penny, and BlueBerry Grill), but we would not recommend this property.
The fault here lies with the owner for not investing more in the actual upkeep, better operations, and better guest parking on weekends at this PRIME-location property.
