We drove 3 hours the day of and arrived at 1:30 needing to clean up and change before the 4 pm ceremony. I had received an email that said I could check in and go straight to the room (no mention of a check in time) but despite trying for two days to do so, it kept saying it could not find our reservation so we checked in at the desk. There was only one employee working the desk (Gracie) and she was perhaps the worst front desk employee I have ever encountered. While most hotels have a 4pm check in time, they will usually work to provide a room as they come available, apparently not at this hotel. We expected there might be a wait until a room was ready, but we were not expecting to be told check in was at 4, no exception. Needing to, at the very least, change into more formal attire, and with no alternatives offered by Gracie (ie any relatively private enclosed space we could use to change) we were left with no other option but to find a new hotel. Thankfully the nearby Courtyard by Marriott was amazing and we were in a room in less than 20 minutes. Now, despite the fact that we tried to check in for the event they knew or should have known was at 4, they are charging us the full cancellation fee.
