A great spot to stay on your vacation! It’s right on the beach and there’s a pathway over the sand dune right to the beach. It’s really great to wake up in the morning and walk right out onto the beach or go for a moonlit beach walk to end the night. The rooms are clean and the employees are very friendly.

We stay in hotels about 4 weeks out of the year. This was BY FAR one of the worst hotels we've ever stayed at. I don't know what these other people giving this hotel good reviews have experienced. The only good thing about this hotel is that it is ocean front. Beware, though, that if you don't get 3rd floor or above, you're not seeing the ocean. You're seeing the parking lot or dunes. And you're also not getting a full view as the center part of the hotel sticks out and blocks a full view. The bathrooms are TINY. There is literally 3 inches between the front of the toilet seat and the edge of the door when it swings open. Two people cannot stand it the bathroom unless one is in the shower. It looks like they started to reno the bath but left the old dirty wallpaper. The door was primed but not painted. IT still had construction marks on it and unpainted surfaces. There was a lot of dirt along the floor where it meets the wall in the bathroom. The rug in the main room is old and looks really dirty. The tile in the main room near the balcony entrance is badly chipped. The wallpaper in the room is torn. The balcony is so GROSS--bady chipped and peeling paint and a huge bulge in the ceiling from who-knows-what? The lamps by the bed are rusted. The TV is small for the room but it is almost impossible to use. No streaming apps are available. Not only that, but there are four different channel guides (typed out on a piece of paper). You have to find each one then scroll through each to find a channel you might like, and you have to do this each time your turn on the TV. I will never ever stay here again, and I will be contacting corporate about this horrible hotel.

HAS ROACHES! If I could give negative stars I would! Not only does house keeping touch your personal belongings while you’re not in the room ( I know this because I came back from an Easter egg hunt and caught her with my daughter’s sunglasses in hand)…. But after returning from dessert on Easter Sunday a cockroach was crawling across my rooms floor and I had to kill it! We emptied out all our bags shook everything out packed up at 8pm at night and drove 7 hours in a storm back home! Roaches are apparently like ants to the OBX locals but who wants to bring roaches home with them?! Holiday inn won’t be paying for your exterminator… you will! Spring break vacation ruined! It’s been 4 days and I have not heard a word from the GM of this hotel and when calling the corporate all they wanted to offer me was points!!!!! Disgusting customer service! The rooms are filthy, they may look ok to you at first but after walking around bare foot for 10 minutes in your room the bottom of your feet will be black! Major holiday weekend and only one elevator was working so it was either extreme wait times with 2 small children or taking the stairs! do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else!

This particular hotel I'd give a minus if possible on management and cleanliness. Our Easter break vacation was abruptly ended early due to live roaches in one of the rooms we rented. Management was nowhere to be found and not a single staff member knew how to handle a customer with a complaint. We left for home in the dark and a storm on the way with daughter and grandkids definitely weren't staying one more night with fear of taking home an unwanted bug hitch hiker. Dirty floors were overlooked because of this being a beach hotel but I should have listened to my instinct and left sooner. If you do decide to take a chance and stay at this location be sure to have an exterminator on speed dial. Upon returning home we had every suitcase opened outside and gone through to be sure we didn't bring home any roaches.

The Outer Banks are not known for luxury hotel accommodations. You can do a home/condo rental or stay at a midrange hotel/motel. Since we were only staying for 3 nights, we chose this Holiday Inn based on the best reviews for hotels in the area. Five stars for location. This hotel has direct access to the beach (no chair/umbrella rentals - bring your own). You can even walk to restaurants if you want. Our room was clean and well maintained. I highly recommend paying the extra fee for an ocean view which comes with a balcony. The only downsides were one of two elevators was out of order, so you always waited for an elevator and the breakfast buffet which was excellent on Saturday and Sunday was out of multiple items on Monday morning. If I returned to the area for a short stay, I would definitely stay here again.
