I booked using the IHG app about $220 per night for this adventure. Check in: No sign stating they were away and about 5 mins wait for the lady to show up. Debit card kept declining that I use literally everywhere and with any other hotel chain. But I used a different card to get the process going. My bank stated it was on their end by the way. We were assigned room 2060. It is a suite big enough for my bride and I to work some without being on top of each other. The smell of marijuana was very strong in the parking lot, all the way up the outside stairs and in the corridor and into room 2060. We had to take our belongings back down to the car and reload to get another room. The lady then assigns us room 1027. So again we load up and head to this room. This room was very small, dated and just a complete let down for what I paid to stay here. So once again back to the front desk and I was told that the first room was the only suite in the entire hotel?? Apparently it was amusing at this point to have to deal with me. There are many “suites” here. We ended up with a room that is smaller than other chains at less than half the price, literally and right next to a suite! I wanted this to be a nice weekend antique shopping with my wife who always works from home. After driving all day we decided to just get settled and I would contact someone in the morning. Now for the room, when using the toilet water drips on your neck/back from an open door in the ceiling right above it. Water was hot, good water pressure in the shower. The fridge was very noisy all night. I was too worked up to sleep. In the morning we make our way to breakfast only to be told, at nausium, that we needed a coupon or we had to pay for breakfast. This was and still is not mentioned in the IHG app I used to book this disaster. And the lady stated it’s not explained there either. It was not mentioned at all at check in. By the way the pictures of the rooms are not accurate either. And they are aware of that! I will state that every one is very polite. I travel for my job and I have several hundred thousand points at all of the other hotel chains that looking back I should have utilized but I didn’t. I wanted what I thought would be something special for my bride for a weekend and an upgrade from what I normally stay in. I wanted to, and still will, escalate this experience as high as needed until someone contacts me to see the pictures and listen to this experience. I left a message for the GM Jackie I believe, to maybe meet me while I was here and no I haven’t heard from her. Big surprise right?! So what else is there to do than a review on Google. I’m sure there will be some mundane response to this review from her or someone else. I’m not a complainer in fact I hate to be negative. My bride and I made the best of this weekend anyway. I did learn that the “other chains” run circles around this location. While it may be great for company meetings and such, it is NOT for the average Joe and his bride that wanted to enjoy a couple nights away from home. Oh and the security protocols are …well…a joke also. We did get a small baggie with lance crackers and chocolate kisses as a sign of gratitude at check in. Ok, popcorn in hand for a resolution.

Hotel is decent but rooms need a new updated decor. There is a restaurant on site but little pricey and hours are Very limited. Staff is very professional and accommodating.

DO NOT book a room at Crowne Plaza Hotel Hickory (1385 Lenoir Rhyne Blvd SE, Hickory, NC) Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts During Thanksgiving weekend, about $1,600 worth of personal items were stolen from our Room 1041. We feel like it was someone with a master key (all access card) because the door was locked with a Do Not Disturb sign. The manager, Jackie Leufkens, has been avoiding us and somehow the Google review I posted a few hours ago has magically disappeared as well. Yet, you will see that Jackie responds to almost all Google reviews herself. Jackie never once reached out to us to ask about the situation. We had to be the ones to keep reaching out repeatedly but we get re-routed to her assistant manager each time. She avoids e-mails, calls and when we called the front desk last week, we were put on hold for almost an hour - only to be told Jackie has now left the property. A police report was filed, and the officer was told that the hotel has “faulty key card systems”. A serious security failure that puts guests at risk. Jackie acknowledged to the officer that their electronic key system isn’t working to see any key logs, and law enforcement confirmed there is no functioning way for the hotel to review the logs to determine who entered our guest room. This means there’s no way to know who enters your room when you’re not there or even while you’re sleeping. This information was admitted directly from hotel management themselves during police investigation. Despite knowing this, they’ve taken no proactive steps to resolve the situation. Instead of taking accountability, they shifted blame and claimed their insurance would not cover the loss, offering no resolution and no concern for guest safety. This is strong grounds for hotel negligence and I’m highly considering small claims courts. Items are replaceable and I don’t judge the thief, I understand people make mistakes, it’s the holidays and times are tough…they may have just been needing the extra money to get by. For me, it’s no longer about the stolen property, it’s about safety and how we were treated by the hotel management. So many Hmong families attend the North Carolina HNY and book rooms here every year. What if someone or something irreplaceable goes missing from a room instead of a materialistic item? The hotel management isn’t taking accountability for their failed security locks…they need to fix that. Period. This exposed a serious lack of leadership, transparency, and basic security standards for this IHG Hotels & Resorts affiliated hotel. Guests deserve to feel safe and to be treated with respect when an issue arises. I strongly caution staying here ever again. It's not safe for you, your children, elderly or even your pets. It seems likes anyone can enter your room at any time without a trace. As a paying customer, we were robbed. Feel free to share and tag Crowne Plaza and IHG. All we wanted was to be treated with respect…who knows how many more situations have been swept under the rug by now.

This was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had, and I strongly recommend choosing a different property. This hotel has serious security failures that puts guests at risk. Management acknowledged their electronic key system is unreliable, and law enforcement confirmed there is no functioning way for the hotel to review access logs to determine who enters the guest rooms. That means there is effectively no way to know who can walk into your room when you’re not there or even while you’re asleep. This information came directly from hotel management during a police investigation. Despite knowing this, leadership has taken no visible steps to correct the issue. During our stay, roughly $1,500 in personal belongings were stolen from our room. The door was supposedly locked, and a Do Not Disturb sign was displayed. A police report was filed with Hickory PD, yet the hotel provided no meaningful assistance in determining how the theft occurred. Instead of cooperating fully, management distanced themselves from the situation. Jackie Leufkens (general manager) demonstrated an extreme lack of professionalism throughout the process. She avoided e-mails, failed to provide updates, and relied on other staff members to act as intermediaries. Basic questions were never answered. What’s especially troubling is that this hotel continues to operate while aware of the security deficiencies. Guests are trusting that their rooms are private and secure, yet the hotel cannot confirm who enters them and offers no accountability. Rather than taking responsibility, management dismissed the situation and stated their insurance would not cover the loss. This incident occurred during our Thanksgiving trip and completely overshadowed what should have been a relaxing stay. The lack of transparency, urgency, and concern for guest safety was shocking. There are multiple safer hotels nearby that take security seriously. I would urge anyone considering this property to look elsewhere!
