On July 5, 2025, I drove from Maryland to North Carolina and attempted to check into my room only to be told that my reservation had been cancelled and I was on the DNR (Do Not Rent) list. Unbeknownst to me, the hotel GM, John Seneca, had accused me of smoking in the hotel room on a previous stay in January 2025. Upon further investigation, I had been charged a $150 smoking fee that totaled $169.50 after taxes and fees. When I asked for evidence of me having smoked in the room, I wasn't given any, and only told that a "thorough investigation had been conducted" and it was determined that I had smoked in the room. Since I didn't smoke in the room this amounts to theft. Reading other reviews detailing the same false allegations leads me to believe this is a money grabbing scam.
I was given no notice at all that my reservation had been cancelled, forcing me to scramble to get another room on a July 4th weekend. IHG sided with the hotel and refused to refund my money. A lot of good being a platinum member does for you. This is the epitome of poor customer service. I've already filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Next I'll be disputing the charge with my credit card company, and if necessary I'll go to small claims court to get back the money stolen from me.

It was clean and quiet. Breakfast had lots of options and was delicious. Walking distance to Texas Roadhouse is a plus.

Update #2: I called corporate to follow up on the complaint both my husband and I filed because no one called us back. They have put my husband (and possibly me, I’m not sure) on the do not rent list AND have accused him of making multiple google accounts to leave poor reviews (which neither of us did, for the record) when in reality it’s the hotel scamming people who aren’t afraid to speak up about it. Just be prepared to spend an extra $150 dollars for a stay at this hotel!
Update: We have tried to call the hotel several times to speak with you the owner and your GM is a.) rude, and b.) refused to let us speak with you. I’d love to speak with someone in regards to the “clear” evidence because according to your front desk he was charged because “the room smelled like it” which is subjective, and the hotel hallway already smelled like marijuana.. so I’m finding it hard to believe that you can pin this solely on one person. Unless you charged everyone staying on that floor the 150 dollars, which I doubt. My husband has offered several times to take a drug test to prove that it was not him smoking in the hotel room. Are you sure that it wasn’t the person staying there prior to him? If so, how can you confirm that. What if your hotel rooms aren’t throughly clean and something incriminating was left behind from a previous resident.
My husband stayed ONE (1) night in this hotel to help a fellow veteran friend pack his stuff because he’s being (honorably discharged) from the army in a few short days and they charged him a $150 fee claiming he was smoking weed in his hotel room.. my husband stayed here for LESS THAN 8 hours and there was ALREADY a weed smell in the hallway upon his arrival. When he called the hotel to inquire about the charge, the man at the desk basically said that their “proof” was that it smelled like it and that whatever is on the “owners notes” is final. The receptionist was incredibly rude and unhelpful. This hotel is actively trying to scam people. Definitely would avoid.
