This was my first stay at Homewood Suites in Cary. When I pulled up, the property looked grand and impressive. Walking through the front doors, you are greeted by a beautiful staircase, a large fireplace, and dramatic floor to ceiling windows. The first impression was excellent.
Unfortunately, that impression changed quickly.
At check in, the front desk associate rolled her eyes as if I was inconveniencing her. The interaction felt cold and unwelcoming. I was assigned a wheelchair accessible room, which surprised me, but since it was late and I was tired and only staying one night, I did not question it.
Once inside the room, the issues became more noticeable. The bed sheets did not properly fit the mattress, and the mattress felt very old. Lying down felt like I was being swallowed by the bed. The room lacked basic conveniences. There was nowhere to hang a jacket or properly place a suitcase. There were no trash cans in the bedroom, only a very small one in the bathroom. Overall, the room felt sparse and poorly maintained.
One more thing worth mentioning was the large gap underneath the door. If you enjoy sleeping with a nightlight, you are in luck. The bright hallway light pours directly into the room and keeps it illuminated all night long. Do not think of it as the light at the end of the tunnel. It is simply hallway lighting that brightens the entire room whether you want it to or not.
Breakfast the next morning was decent but basic, typical warm and cold hotel offerings. The fresh juice stations and real ceramic coffee cups were a nice touch and easily the most pleasant part of the stay.
After breakfast, I attempted to log onto the WiFi to get some work done, but the system did not recognize me as a Hilton Rewards member. I returned to the front desk and asked another associate to add my phone number to the reservation. It clearly felt like a chore for her. She reluctantly entered the information, and it was apparently done incorrectly because I still could not access the internet. Not wanting to cause a scene, I ended up using my own mobile hotspot. I also doubt the stay will be properly credited to my account.
Shortly after starting work in the room, a fire alarm began blaring. With a meeting scheduled within the hour, I packed up and left rather than wait it out. The alarm was extremely loud, and even 10 hours later my ears were still ringing.
The most disappointing part of this stay was the service at the front desk. Both associates appeared disengaged, scrolling on their phones until a guest approached. Every request was met with eye rolls and heavy sighs. In hospitality, guests should never feel like a burden. The building itself has strong visual appeal, but service defines the experience. Sadly, that is where this hotel fell short.

Only plus for this hotel is the location nearby offices. Otherwise this is 1 of the worst Hilton hotels I have ever visited. I stayed 5 days and the service staff didn’t come for once to cleanup, even after requesting it 24hr beforehand. They only clean once the room is vacated. There was a cockroach in my room. The cabinet doors had dust all over. It was a renovated room yet the hangers were leaving the paint. It’s a very old property and you can sense it at the entrance itself. My daughter has consistent cough and fever because of the room hygiene. Once we were out of it, she never coughed. Poor service. Everyday it’s the same stale poor breakfast. Even 2 star hotels have better options than here. The staff have no courtesy for the guests.

The hotel was great. Enjoyed our visit. Only thing is the digital key thing is just a gimic. Checkin is at 3. Supposed to get an email at 3 with the digital key telling us our room was ready and we can bypass the front desk. At 3:10 we hadn't gotten anything so we went ahead and checked in. Didn't get the email and digital key until 3:37. Seems more trouble than it's worth. Have to pull out phone, open app, select digital key to get in room vs just pulling out room key. Still enjoyed our visit. Hotel was nice and quiet. No issues at all.

Room isn’t cleaned unless you go out of your way to request specific days. Hallway smelled funky. Both elevators were falling apart inside. Fitness room was not open for use. Breakfast was low to mid tier. Shower pressure was bad and someone’s old soap bar was left in my shower. Whatever detergent was being used for the linens made my skin breakout. Construction in the building caused the water to shut off and then shoot brown liquid from the sink, and the fire alarm was set off twice during the stay. Building and rooms are very dated, hence the construction. The room seemed fine, however I didn’t try to use any of the kitchen appliances. The only reason this is even getting two stars is because 1- location, and 2- one of the front desk ladies was really nice to me, I’d wish I got her name but didn’t.
