We loved it! My kids loved the complimentary cookies at check-in. Staff is friendly and attentive. They answered all of our questions. The room we requested was very spacious for our family. We loved the living space, i door pool and location. There is road construction of an access road that leads to the hotel. The breakfast has everything for everyone. The breakfast area very clean and accomodating and spacious for different group sizes. My kids loved it. It's worth the stay. We weren't far away from the beach either. I highly recommend good price and great service. There was also ample parking space.

We booked a suite with 2 queen beds in 2 separate rooms. When we got to our room it was just a standard double queen with "extra space." When we complained we were told half the extra space room have the extra room amd half don't. They would not give us the room we booked and would not give us the price of a regular double queen room. Blatantly false advertising and a bated and switch with no attempt at reconciliation from the staff.

I have been coming to this hotel for quite a while now for work. However one trip to a different holiday Inn made me realize the massive difference in quality of the experiences.
The Staff:
The staff are great everyone is welcoming and accommodating. I’ve never had an issue with the staff, the front desk, maintenance, cleaning staff are all great zero complaints.
The rooms:
My family has had a back ground in construction so the small things stick out to me and the utter lack of care that has gone into building or even remodeling this hotel is sad. The tiles in the bathrooms are uneven, the grout work is abysmal, the last room I stayed in had the no corner shelves in the shower because they were broken off and removed instead of replaced/repaired. One room I stayed in had a bathroom door installed so poorly that it there was a gap so large in the latch side of the door that it barely latched closed. The shower water temperature control fixture is not installed correctly in multiple bathrooms causing you to be unable to turn the water temp all the way to warm in some rooms.
The bedframes still have the protective plastic they came covered. The outlets on the bed side tables all are loose and don’t hold plugs. Without using the alarm clock to hold in a simple phone charger.
The carpet is outdated, dirty and torn.
The WiFi is sad to say the least. as someone who needs to have constant wifi access for work it’s honestly pathetic that the wifi goes out and when the issue is raised to the front desk they have become so accustomed to the owners mistreatment of the business that they response with “oh the wifi goes out sometimes it is usually fixed by morning if not we will call the help desk”
The Rooms come with Direct TV service… Well kind of the direct TV system is installed in each and every room. However the vast majority of the rooms I’ve stayed in have Direct TV boxes that don’t work. So rather than having Direct TV come fix the issues the Owner has a surplus’s of Roku TV stick that he has placed in the rooms that have faulty Direct TV boxes, meaning you need to sign into a service you pay for from home to enjoy TV in a room or your forced to deal with 5 mins of ads every 4-5 mins of movie you watch through Rokus “free service”
I don’t typically leave reviews like this but I feel bad that the employees that give this business their all are left to deal with a owner that consistently cuts corners and refuses to run his business with quality as a priority. The big wake up call was the trip I had to Charlotte where I staying in a holiday Inn express that was immaculate. The perfect example of what all Holiday Inn express chains should strive for. The bathrooms were clean the rooms were perfect the build quality of the whole place was spot on. However all of that did one thing and that’s show me just how bad the Southport Holiday Inn is ran/cared for by the owner.
The employees care and they want things to change but they are handicapped by the absentee owner that couldn’t care less about this Hotel.
Corporate needs to make a serious visit to this Hotel without giving the owner prior heads up so they can see just how the rooms are for themselves. Don’t bother sending this to hotel management as there’s nothing they can actually do when the Owner handicaps them from fixing the issues at hand.
