We had a room in Valley View on the second floor. There is no elevator. The resort was started in 1921 and I believe our room hadn’t been updated since except for the tv which was probably 1980. We ate at a three different restaurants with less than average food. The kicker was that we had an EV which required recharging overnight. We were told to stop at registration and get the key to unlock the box holding the charger. At 7:30 pm I asked for the key, signed it out and then told it had to be returned in 6 hours. I reminded her it was 7:30pm and 6 hours later it would be 1;30 am. She said she knew that. I asked to see a manager who repeated the same message and yes, the key needed to be returned by 1:30am. We drove to the one charger only to find the lock cylinder on the box had been removed and no key was needed. I returned the key to the desk. In the morning on checking out I asked to speak to the manager and told her my story. She apologized and said she would speak to the persons involved. To her credit I was offered a food voucher. This is not a 5 star resort based on my experience. There may be better accommodations on the property but you should be specific about your accommodations. Many are “vintage”.

We have been coming to big cedar for years to celebrate our anniversaries now and until this stay, everything from the rooms, customer service and food has been exceptional. With the prices they charge you expect things to be clean, well cared for and amazing customer service, that is furthest from the truth on this trip. From the tub not draining, broken and loose(not attached) tiles and loose grout in the shower in one room to finally after missing a full day waiting on someone to come help us, being moved to a cottage that was the size of a cracker box with no tub and then finally landing in another room in falls lodge that the fire place was broken, no ice bucket or coffee maker and double beds, this trip was honestly ruined. The customer service was terrible from the front desk and seemed unapologetic about real issues with their property. Even though they tried to compensate with a food voucher and a small refund, nothing will give us the time we were celebrating for our 30th anniversary. The only thing good about this property now is their gift shops and worman house. I used to tell everyone to go stay here but will no longer promote this property. You need to update your property or put a motel 7 sign at the enterence. So very disappointed.

It’s extremely frustrating that every year for the last 5 years we have always came the end of February and each year gets so much worse with being able to get into our room. First it was 3:00 and the next year it was 3:00 but got in at 5:00 and yet again this year the check in is 4:00 and here it is 4:20 and we still don’t have a room ready for us.

My Husband and I come every year to celebrate our Anniversary for over a decade. This year is our 20 Yr. Anniversary. We look forward to our getaway every year.
Unfortunately, I do not think we will be back. Our cabin had ants in it , we called the front desk and they said somebody will be over to spray so instead of relaxing we had to leave for 4 hours. When we returned nobody had been by. Called the front desk again, they said they would send someone over. Not 1 person apologized. Two hours later , they brought bait traps. The next morning we woke up we had ants in the bed , in the bathroom , everywhere. Called the front desk again, they said they would finally move us. Again , instead of relaxing we had to pack everything up and wait for another cabin to open up. We spent another 4 hours just waiting outside the resort. When they called us to let us know a cabin is ready we went in and there were 2 toe nails on the nightstand right by the phone. At this point I just wanted to go home. My husband called the front desk and FINALLY spoke to someone ( Abby) who wanted to make it right. We were able to get into our 3rd cabin for our 3 night stay and it was perfect. The cabin like we usually stay in , a cozy 1 bedroom cabin. Abby was generous enough to comp us a meal. When I went to go eat my meal there was mold in the cheese. My husband and I are usually not ones to complain , we know things happen. My husband and I both needed this trip desperately, I lost my Mom , My Brother and my Dad within months of each other. All we wanted to do is get away and take a breathe. Unfortunately that did not happen , we spent more time in our car then in one of the cabins.
