The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because the pool was closed for our stay and I was not notified of this when I booked. Given that I have children that love to swim I often hotels that have pools so it was a bummer that theirs was being remodeled and was closed for our stay. However, the rooms were comfortable, the breakfast was good and the staff were very friendly and helpful to us. It was clean and inviting. We all loved the little free extras that they provided i.e. hot chocolates, apple cider, tea, and cookies. Andrew was one staff member that really stood out as being extremely helpful upon our checking in. The other staff were great I just didn't catch all of their names. I would definitely stay here again if I was in the area.

We stay at Holiday Inn Express almost always when we travel because they are typically very nice. This is the exception. I recommend staying in KC or Independence instead of Maryville Holiday Inn Express. The lobby seemed fine and the desk clerk was polite and helpful. The location is close to the university. That's it for the positives.... The elevator was clanky and the elevator floor tiles were all rolling up. I was afraid to get in. Our room was on the 3rd floor. If I wasn't so tired, I would've left when we stepped off the elevator. Dark, musty, holes in the walls, the trim is ripped off. My husband convinced me they must be remodeling. After reading other reviews it seems that may be the case, but I'm reading reviews a year + old saying they're renovating. Not sure how long that takes. We walked into our room. It seems ok. But a closer look and its pretty dirty/old. The air vents are rusty/old. The night stand had dust/crusty food?? dried on. Cracks in the wall. The bathroom had coffee ring stains on the vanity, the faucet was barely hanging on (wobbly and almost disconnected from the base). A wall tile was broken in the bathroom and lying in the floor. The back of the bathroom door had splatters all over it. I was hoping it was paint from the "renovations" but my curiosity got me. I wiped the door with a wet towel and the splatters were coming off.....so not paint....just someone not cleaning. The bed was ok but it was the worst nights sleep I've ever gotten in a hotel. The heat made random popping noises ALL NIGHT LONG. Kids running/playing up and down the halls well after midnight (this isnt necessarily the hotels fault). You can hear everything. Walls are paper thin. I could hear normal conversations (not yelling) people were having all around me. I'm not sure who is responsible for upkeep in chain hotels, but I'd get my name off this property asap if I were Holiday Inn Express.
