    Disgruntled Review for Candlewood Suites – Cape Girardeau, MO My experience at this Candlewood Suites was nothing short of a nightmare. During my stay, several thousand dollars worth of my personal belongings were stolen. I immediately contacted management, expecting at least basic concern or assistance, but they were completely unhelpful. Their response ranged from dismissive to outright rude, and at no point did they take any meaningful action. I filed a police report, but given the small-town dynamics, it quickly became clear that the police and hotel management were far too familiar with each other for anything to be taken seriously. The lack of accountability was astonishing. I also reached out to IHG, only to be told that this location is individually owned and operated—meaning they couldn’t intervene. So essentially, guests are left at the mercy of a management team that is unpredictable, unprofessional, and seemingly uninterested in guest safety or property security. I would strongly caution anyone considering a stay here. The environment felt lawless, the management was hostile, and there was zero support when a serious incident occurred. I’ve stayed at many IHG properties over the years, and this was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had.

    Do not stay here!! They will charge you cleaning fees for accidentally clogging a toilet if you use it. They will also charge you 500 dollars if they find out you had any tobacco or other products in the room even if you didnt smoke in the room they will charge you.

    Booked a reservation one week prior to staying. Took a screen shot of the pet policy showing $25 per pet and also received an email confirmation stating $25 per pet. Showed up to check in and the individual at the front desk (Bobbie) said the fee is $75 and that the websites have now been updated. I asked her if she would honor my reservation confirmation stating $25. She said she would need to call the manager. The manager (assuming it’s Derick Charles) told Bobbie no right then and there over the phone. I said then I will need to file a compliant since this is false advertising. The manager on the phone heard me say that and then told Bobbie I can’t stay there and my reservation has been cancelled and that I would have to contact the third party (Google price ads) to get a refund. I asked Bobbie who she was speaking and they must have told her not to disclose their name because she wouldn’t tell me. I was puzzled and confused. I have never had this happen before. I was asking Bobbie how do I get my money back that they took for no reason. She could not help me. She said I would need to leave or she would call the cops. No customer service at all. I walked out to my car to try and process what just happened. After a couple of minutes I walked back in to ask Bobbie who do I contact to request a refund since my reservation only had their contact information. She said I need to leave. Right then, the manager Derick Charles which is not at the location was watching the cameras and called Bobbie to tell her he will call the police. What a big miscommunication. This hotel should not take my money for false advertising. I contacted corporate guest relations and they will be investigating this property and giving me a refund. Poor customer service and communication at the physical hotel. This hotel does not know the definition of hospitality and how to de escalate a situation but to escalate it in a negative way. Guest relations on the phone was great to work with as they created a case and will look into these two individuals.
