First off, it is a GrandStay Hotel, so this is not rating based on some 5 star hotels.
Pros: it is THE nicest hotel in the area. The room are basic and I had the 2-queen option. They have the crappy microwave/fridge wooden storage thing, so nothing is built in. Size is basic for midwest hotels and the bathrooms are decent sized.
Cons: They closed and are getting rid of the hot tub!!! I was excited to use it but I guess I shouldn't trust their photos on their website. The breakfast are ok with a couple hot items and a few cold. Wish they would make more breakfast sandwiches. There only seemed to be one in the container each morning and it looked like it was reheated from the day before.
I would absolutely stay here again as there isn't a nicer option around. Staff were friendly and willing to help with questions or requests (like more coffee).

Unclean and unprepared room with poor service and breakfast.
I have stayed at the GrandStay Hotel & Suites Thief River Falls intermittently during 2025 for about two weeks at a time. There have been numerous instances of poor service including no towels, batteries misisng from the remote control, bathroom faucet not working properly and not fixed for an entire week, a leak from the ktichen sink, likely fire code violation with a bag around the smoke detector, among other things. However, this last stay in December was the worst and I decided to write a review.
During this stay, my room was not clean with bits of potato chips on the floor in the bedroom and the tables, dirty dishes in the dishwasher, dirty stove, and a missing light bulb. Cleaning service is only by request, not the typical every few days or even once a week. Unless you ask, management is happy to save money on cleaning staff by not cleaning your room. The kitchenettes are typically missing or broken utensils, pots, or pans. You honestly don't know what will be available depending on the room.
In general, the breakfast is substandard for a three star hotel. As the pictures show, sometimes the staff does not even bother to refill the cereal or have enough food (bacon) or have enough milk/yogurt. Mind you, this was between 7 and 8 am, so during the main breakfast time. The hotel has also gone from three hot choices to two choices, which I imagine to cut cost. The management has also directed the staff also to not restock things like tea or oatmeal, until everything is finished. For example, there was one packet of original oatmeal for the whole week I was there, and the oatmeal would not be replaced until all of it was taken, whether anyone liked original or not.
The gym is about four treadmills/bicycles. Small weights, but nothing substantial. There is a water jug, but in the entire year I have gone there, not once have I found cups available.
Finally, the front desk staff is hit or miss. Most of the time unfriendly, but occasionally there is a friendly person that will greet you.
I would not recommend anyone stay here, especially for the amount charged. I've stayed because of my company and a kitchen, but I'm trying to find other options.

The people who work there are kind and make for the process to be seamless. I don’t mind staying here whatsoever and the only thing I notice repeatedly is the dusting of the rooms that could be improved upon as you can see and breathe dust more times than not.

I checked in at 7 pm on a cold winter night. Rooms were great, location is good too. On down side, the front desk attendant was very unwelcoming and I felt why I booked here. Hotel shall train staff before exposing them to customers as I was almost about to walkaway. Breakfast was ok.

Hot tub didn’t work, pool room was freezing, too cold to enjoy swimming. Bed also had no sheets when we got there and had puke stains on the mattress
