My room, unfortunately, was not properly cleaned. Carpets looked as though they'd not been vacuumed, and I discovered someone else's food in the small refrigerator. I didn't discover all of this until after I was unpacked and settled in, or I would have requested a different room. The nasty part of what I discovered in the 'fridge? A half-eaten carton of Ben & Jerry's ice cream. I don't believe there is any proper 'freezer' compartment in the 'fridge -- meaning, when I opened the carton, it had turned into a truly gloppy mess. Not something you'd want a guest to find. However, despite the un-clean condition of my room, the really objectionable part of my stay was breakfast. And plz let me say I've been a fan of the Holiday Inn Express breakfast for years. But there were a ton of big misses' this time, this stay. VERY stale bagels. Two yogurts in the small 'fridge in the breakfast area. TWO. Both quality and quantity issues. But the most concerning issue is in regard to HYGIENE. And I don't pretend to know what the health department rules are with respect to presenting a breakfast buffet to guests. What I can tell you is I observed the breakfast attendant, who was not wearing any type of Name Badge or other indication he was affiliated with the Holiday Inn, standing around and giving a hard-stare to guests. Very inappropriate. I then watched him. Watched him replenish the food in the warmers without wearing gloves. Watched him replenish the plastic cutlery without wearing gloves (yes, grabbing from a drawer under the buffet with his bare hands). The most off-putting from a HYGIENE standpoint? He was mopping up tables and the surfaces of the buffet with a dirty, wet rag. Bare hands on the dirty wet rag. He then used the rag to clean off the electronic control pad on the coffee machine. He then took his same, ungloved hands off the dirty rag, and used those non-sanitary hands to replenish utensils at the buffet. To touch the handles of the warming dishes. To touch the tongs in front of the warming dishes. YUCK! Definitely not keeping with any sanitary standards you ought to consider acceptable. Sadly, I used to like this hotel. It is 5 minutes from Mayo Clinic where I've unfortunately been receiving care and treatment for the last 8 months. I've stayed at this location more than 6 times in the last 7 months. But I will not be staying with you again. Your standards have fallen too far.

Front desk staff very helpful and friendly. The Continental breakfast was not good. The bread and bagels were stale. Food set up each morning was always late. The bananas were almost were over ripe, brown and "mushy". The rooms had no USB ports, very suprising. The underground parking was nice but the heat was turned up very high in the garage. If you stay here, bring your own food for breakfast food(s). Holiday Inn.. Do better with the breakfast.
