I have stayed here numerous times for both work and vacation. The rooms are worn but fine by hotel standards. The most recent stay had me concerned with the maintenance of this location.
The shower was spitting out brown water and took ages to give hot water. After finally getting clear hot water I took a minimalist shower and decided this was my last stay at this IHG location. I’ll pass on the morning coffee. I’m not a hotel snob, it’s a Holiday Inn Express but brown water? A first time for everything I guess.

The hotel needs to be better maintained and updated. The rooms were low quality but had some amenities like mini fridge and microwave. Our toilet ran and needed to be flushed 2x each time. Tile in the bathroom was in need of maintenance or replacing. Same thing at the pool with broken tile and overall maintenance. Breakfast is low quality ingredients. I am leaving feeling like I overpaid for the experience. However, the staff is great, our room didn't have a smell and the view is good on the valley view side. We were 3rd floor.

Everything was better than expected for the brand and for a tourist spot! The balconies, ceiling and bathroom fans were unexpected and so helpful as someone that needs fresh air and airflow! As it was a fall midweek visit I can't say what it's like in peak season with families traveling, so we got lucky with the pool area being very relaxing. Pool open till 11 was surprising as well. Looking forward to a visit where I can see the view a bit more (we arrived after dark)
If I had any constructive feedback at all it would be to have a few more exciting waffle toppings. Other HI express often have caramel or white chocolate, fruit toppings. I could see this being an unreasonable expense given the number of kids you must see annually, realistically though!

We had a wonderful stay! The view from our fifth-floor balcony was absolutely beautiful and relaxing, overlooking the valley’s vibrant fall colors. Our room was very clean, and the staff were friendly and accommodating throughout our visit. We also loved the consistently awesome breakfast that Holiday Inn Express hotels always offer—it’s one of the reasons we keep coming back!

Amazing Stay with a Private Hot Tub!
The Holiday Inn Express in Petoskey was incredible from start to finish. The room was spotless, modern, and had one of the best surprises — an in-room hot tub! After a long day exploring downtown and the waterfront, soaking in that private tub was absolute perfection. It made the whole stay feel like a mini getaway.
The bed was super comfortable, and everything from the linens to the lighting felt top-notch. Staff were genuinely friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed. Breakfast was hot, fresh, and well-stocked, and the location is perfect — close to everything but still peaceful and quiet at night.
If you’re looking for a relaxing, romantic, or just plain comfortable place to stay in Petoskey, this is it. Five stars all the way.
