  Nice new hotel, clean and friendly staff. A nice free full hot breakfast too. Rooms were quite with a great view of Lake Huron.

  Nov. 8, 2025 @ 4 am. I would have loved to rate this hotel with 5 stars total, but I can’t. I’m staying in room 424 and the AC isn’t working. The fan blows cool air but the compressor doesn’t turn on to make it cold. I cleaned the filters to make sure that wasn’t the problem. The night receptionist is a wonderful young woman who along with her coworker (mother)came into the room unplugged the unit to see if it would reset and plugged it back in. As I have been doing all night, she lowered the temperature, and set the fan on high, it blows cool air but not cold. It’s the same thing I’ve been trying all night except for unplugging the unit. At this point I am just frustrated that I’ve paid almost $200 for the night and haven’t been able to sleep. I’ve traveled all over the world, it’s not that I don’t know how to work an AC thermostat. Hopefully, they will tend to this and the next customer who needs to sleep in a nice cold room can do so. As far as the location, it is beachfront. The hotel is clean and so is this room.If you stay here, check the AC before going to sleep. Breakfast was standard for Holiday Inn Express. I was surprised that the biscuits were good and not hard and dry, the sausage links were pale and didn’t look appetizing nor appealing, potatoes were tasty and cooked well. Morning update: Nov. 8, 2025 @ 9:15 am. After breakfast I told the receptionist about my experience with the AC. She informed me that the night receptionist told her all about it, and that their compressors are so quiet they’re not heard when they come on. She was a bit rude in her tone. I believe that perhaps because I am a Latina woman she thought I may have been trying to get a discount. So, I calmly clarified that I wasn’t after a discount. I am very disappointed in her lack of professionalism and that this hotel has someone of such low caliber tending to customers. I will never stay at this hotel. I’d rather stay at a budget hotel, the ac would possibly work and the attendant may be more professional. How she should have responded…I am sorry that you had a rough night and weren’t able to sleep. We will have the AC inspected. I would have walked out feeling heard, and not felt someone behaving condescendingly by trying to prove that I was wrong. I should have noticed her name tag but I was so upset that I needed to walk out. Perhaps it’s best. It’s not my desire for someone’s job to be at risk. Better training is what’s necessary- customer service, racism, bias, etc., the works when dealing with the public or you are the face of an establishment for customers. Below are pictures the room temperature where I set it and where it kept going back to (74). I even asked if they controlled the AC centrally to see if perhaps that may have been the issue.

  I love this place, bunch of restaurants to walk to, good gym to work out in, beautiful scenery, very clean rooms.
